“Don’t forget about the part where you were wrong, and I was right.” I hum, letting my head fall back to grant him better access. “That’s my favorite part.”

He smiles as he trails light kisses across my chest. “You can be right as long as I can have you.”

The doorbell rings, and excitement clenches my stomach.

But it’s nothing compared to the way my body reacts when I swing open the front door and see Grant standing on my porch.

“Damn, Harper.” A black dress shirt clings to his broad shoulders and chest, tapering down into the waistband of his dark jeans held together with a matching belt. His sleeves are rolled halfway up his forearms revealing lean muscle and veins. “You clean up nicely.”

His eyes blaze a trail down my body. “So do you.”

I turn in a slow circle, giving him ample time to stare at my ass in my cream-colored sweater dress. “I wore the boots especially for you.”

“I appreciate the gesture.” He steps through the doorway and snakes one hand around my waist, pulling me close to him. “I’ve been fantasizing about them since the day you showed up on my porch dressed like Black Widow.”

I laugh. “You hated me then.” I take the bouquet of red roses from his other hand and bring them to my nose. “These are beautiful.”

“You’re beautiful.”

I tilt my chin. “Are we allowed to kiss, or do I have to wait until the end of the date?”

His dark eyes bounce between mine. “You’re going to wait because if I kiss you now, we won’t be going on a date.”

I stick out my bottom lip and pout. “You’re no fun.”

“Oh, you’re going to see just how fun I am.” With a wink, he takes my hand and walks me out to his truck.

Noah is sleeping at Hannah’s house tonight, so Grant insisted on taking me on a proper date before having a sleepover of our own.

He takes me to a restaurant that recently opened in town, and we’re seated in a dimly-lit corner near a cozy fireplace.

My eyes bounce around the room at the giant abstract sculptures hanging from the ceiling. “It’s beautiful in here.”

“It sure is.”

But his eyes aren’t on the artwork. They’re on me.

Heat creeps into my cheeks. “I didn’t know you were such a romantic.”

“I want to make you happy.” He reaches across the table and covers my hand with his. “Which is why I went to the orthopedic today.”

I lean forward. “You did? What did he say?”

“He gave me a prescription for an MRI. He said it sounds like there might be a bulging disk in my lumbar spine. I’d have to go to physical therapy for three months, and if that doesn’t work, then he wants to try an injection.”

“I know you don’t want to do any of that, but the physical therapy might help.”

He nods. “He also gave me a bottle of CBD gel. He said it’s good for inflammation and can help with the pain when it flares up.”

I squeeze his hand. “I’m so happy you went. I bet Noah is happy too.”

“She’s been bugging me to go for the last year.”

“She’s a smart kid. You should listen to her more often.”
