I lean my elbows on the table. “Now I’m intrigued.”

Grant rises from the table and pulls out a plate from the fridge covered by a silver dome.

“Oh, it’s so fancy.” I grin as I gaze up at Grant. “You really went all-out on this anniversary dinner.”

We’re counting Halloween as our anniversary since it’s the official day we came into each other’s lives.

Grant sets the plate in front of me and pulls off the top.

A small black velvet box sits in the center of the plate.

My heart falters as my hands fly up to my mouth. “Oh my god.”

“Elena Donaldson…” Grant lowers himself onto one knee and reaches out his hand for Noah. She slides off her seat and kneels on the floor beside him. “I’ve fallen madly in love with you, not only because of the incredible woman you are but because of the way you love my daughter. I can’t quite put into words how much that means to me. You’ve made a difference in her life, and you’ve changed mine forever. I never thought I’d find someone who could fit so perfectly into our lives, someone I’d trust as much as I trust you.

“You’ve pushed me, and you’ve helped me become a better man. You taught me how to open my heart when I didn’t even know it was possible. You are the kindest, most caring person I’ve ever known. And I want to spend the rest of my life giving you everything you deserve.”

My heart feels like it’s going to explode out of my chest. I’ve never felt this way about anyone, this happy, this in love. Noah and Grant are my family now, and this makes it official.

“Lenny, will you marry my dad and be my mom?” Noah asks.

I fling my arms around each of them. “Yes! I love you both so much.”

Noah reaches up to snatch the ring box off the table, and she hands it to Grant.

Grant flips open the top and holds out the ring. “If you want your own ring, I will buy you one. But I figured you might want to wear your mother’s ring instead.”

My mother.

My glistening eyes widen as I gaze down at the ring. “How did you get this?”

“Noah and I went to visit your mother. I called ahead to make sure she was having a good day. I asked for her permission to marry you, and she gave me the ring off her finger.” He hikes a shoulder. “She said you always loved it.”

“She remembered.” I nod as he slips the ring onto my finger. “I want to keep this one. I love it.”

Noah looks up at me, wearing the biggest smile I’ve ever seen.

Noah and Grant are everything I’ve ever wanted.

A family of my own.

“Well, I gotta go get ready. Hanna’s going to be here soon to pick me up.”

Grant’s head snaps to the right. “You’re leaving?”

She shrugs. “You’re engaged. What else do you need me for?”

His mouth falls open, and he swings his gaze to me. “Do you believe this?”

Noah plants her hands on her hips. “What? Why are you being so dramatic?”

“I’m not being dramatic.” His jaw works under his skin. “We just got engaged. I figured you’d want to spend the night with us. Have a movie night or something.”

“Dad, everyone’s going ice skating. I have to be there.”

I bite my bottom lip to keep from laughing. “It’s fine. Let her be with her friends.”

He shakes his head as he pushes up off the floor. “Fine. Be back by nine.”
