Noah lets out a frustrated sigh. “No one leaves at nine.”

“I don’t want you to leave at nine. I want you to leave in time to be home by nine.”

“Dad, oh my god! That’s so unfair.”

He crosses his arms over his chest. “So what time do you think you’ll be home?”

She tucks her hair behind her ear, feigning innocence. “Eleven?”

“No. No way. You can’t—”

I slip my arm into the crook of his elbow. “Who’s driving you home?”

“I think Gianna’s dad said he could pick us up.”

“And will there be boys in your group?”

Noah scrunches her nose. “No, but I’m sure there will be boys from our school.”

“Nope. No way,” Grant says.

“Let her go.” I squeeze his arm. “We’ll celebrate our engagement ourselves.”

Grant arches a brow like he can read my mind, which is completely in the gutter with the promise of alone time tonight.

“Fine. But eleven is my limit.”

Noah squeals. “Thank you.”

Then she bolts upstairs.

He shakes his head. “I really thought she’d want to spend time with us tonight as a family.”

“She’s fifteen. She wants to be with her friends. Don’t take it personally.” I press a kiss to his cheek. “Besides, now I get you all to myself tonight.”

He wraps his hands around my waist. “So this was your plan, huh? Get Noah out of the house so you can take advantage of me?”

I chuckle. “Is it working?”

“Definitely.”

“I actually planned on giving you a surprise tonight.” I wiggle out of his hold and reach for my purse sitting on the counter. “Even though nothing is going to top this beautiful ring you just put on my finger.”

“You didn’t have to get me anything, babe.”

“It’s kind of for the both of us.” I pull out a thin white envelope. “Open it.”

He flips open the flap and pulls out the letter, his eyes scanning it eagerly to find out what it is. “You’re selling your house?”

I nod. “The realtor thinks it’ll be a quick sale since it’s in such great shape.”

“Are you sure that’s what you want to do? I know you love that house and—”

“I’m sure.” I slip the letter back into the envelope and toss it onto the table. “This is the only home Noah has ever known, and I’d never make you sell it just to move right across the street into mine. And even though Neil hasn’t bothered me for the money, I want to cut ties with him for good. I don’t want this looming over me.”

“I get it. And you’re here all the time anyway.” He tips my chin and kisses my lips. “Are you sure this is what you want to do? You can always rent out the house and use it as an investment property.”

“No, I want to sell it. I’m sure.”
