“Does it suit me?” I muse, smiling up at him.

“I’ve never seen anything better.”

It’s like music to my ears as he reaches down to kiss and hug me again.

This is where I want to be, and where my heart has always been.

With him.

And finding our way back to each other feels like magic.

EPILOGUE

Emmerson

Taylor and I never looked back from that night of the Hawks Stanley Cup win.

It still remains one of the best nights of our lives.

I ended up taking half of the next week off to spend with Taylor and our families to enjoy reveling in his win and him achieving the Conn Smythe Trophy.

It takes pride of place on the mantle in the penthouse.

It was quickly decided that I would move back to Seattle in the long-term while Taylor sees out the rest of his career with the Hawks. And if he were to be transferred again, I would go wherever he was.

His mom had surgery at the end of the Stanley Cup week. Everything went well for her in the operating room, but her recovery was fairly slow. It turned out to be a large, benign tumor. They were able to remove it and she is doing remarkably well now.

It took so much stress off Taylor after the surgery.

He flew out to Miami a couple of weeks later. Between the end of the Cup Finals in June and pre-season training starting in September, he finally has a bit of time on his hands.

He was pretty battered and beaten after the final game, but it allowed him time for some R&R and we were able to enjoy Florida.

He took me on holiday soon after to the place he bought for his mom in the Caribbean. As soon as she is well enough, we’re going to come out again for a family holiday with our parents… even his dad Michael has agreed to come along.

Dad made a full recovery and retired from the accounting firm. He now spends his days focusing on his garden and playing golf.

I saw out my notice until my boss could find a replacement before moving to Seattle. Then I moved into his Seattle office, so not having to look for a job was a bonus. Taylor insisted we take a few months off before training started, and so I took a long leave of absence before starting my new job. Even then, I only work part time and do the hours that I want to do. With the money Taylor has made over his career, it wasn’t as though either of us had to worry financially ever again. I plan to work from home starting my own firm in the long term.

When the ice freezes over that winter, Taylor takes me for a drive to our favorite spot near the lake. I swear to God, I would never get sick of seeing this place, or being here with him. I can’t help but think back to prom night, and that makes me laugh out loud.

Taylor looks at me.

We took my SUV because, frankly, driving his Porsche around on the slippery road just seems nonsensical.

“What’s so funny?” He tips his head to the side as the corner of his mouth turns up.

“I was thinking about that time…” I trail off and cover my face with my hands.

“That time what?” he says, knowing fine well.

“You know it… prom night, when you got me half naked.”

“I remember it very vividly,” he tells me mischievously. “You sat on top of me, remember?”

I laugh. “Of course I remember. I was so nervous!”

“You wanna reenact it now?”
