“…I, Mia Flores, take you,…t-to be my h-h-h." She stopped trying to pronounce the word and cleared her throat, then looked at me and muttered "sorry".

My thumb lightly stroked the back of her hand urging her to go on.

"I, Mia Flores, take you to be my husband. I promise to be faithful to you, in good times and in bad, in sickness and in health, to love you and to honor you all the days of my life,” she successfully repeated this time, the sound of her voice like harps, so gentle and soft.

My brother handed me the rings as I stared at my tear-ridden bride. Hopelessness glazed her features.

“Mia Flores, receive this ring as a sign of my love and fidelity. In the name of the father, and the son, and the holy spirit,” I repeated as I placed the small, but precious ring on her finger. It fitted her perfectly. Its beauty was subtle yet, jaw-dropping like the goddess that stood before me.

She took the ring from my hands, her unsteady fingers grasping my hand as she mimic me, “Elias Galdur, receive this ring as a sign of my love and fidelity. In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.”

One singular tear left her eye once the ring snuggly fit to my finger. A symbol of our lifelong tie to each other.

“In the sight of God and these witnesses, I now pronounce you husband and wife! You may kiss your bride!”

I held her cheek, my thumb softly wiping the lone tear from her face; it was as soft as her hands; probably softer.

She looked at me, her eyes darting between my eyes and lips.

Her body was stiff as I lowered my head slowly -not to startle her- to her lips. Laying a kiss to her lush lips, she hesitantly moved against my own. Mia tasted sweet with a hint of strawberry. She smelled like it too.

I pulled away, looking at her glossy eyes. There weren’t glossy from the tears. No, this was something more; desire.

Dropping my hands to her side, I grabbed her left hand and led my wife out of the church signifying the beginning of our life together.

Chapter Seven

MIA

He looked like the angel of death; deadly but angelic. My husband was perfection. What I thought only kings and gods looked like.

He was tall, his 6’3 stature, causing me to strain my neck to see his unusually dark eyes which were framed by the beard he sported. His gaze, enough to make my knees buckle.

Tattoos covered each patch of his ivory skin that wasn’t adorned by the tux he wore except for his face. His face revealed none of his thoughts, only his calm demeanor -the opposite of my own.

Four letters: “TGMF” were burned into his flawless skin under his right eye. It was sinfully sexy, but I knew what it read and that was enough to curl my stomach.

The Galdur Mob Family

That is what I was marrying into. I would be the wife to the man who controlled it all. My heart shuddered.

His hands were rough as they squeezed my own as the stench of despair escaped my pores. I killed one monster, only to end up in the arms of another.

Yet, my body craved the man that stood before me, his lips- a contradiction of his coarse hands.

However fleeting the kiss we shared at the altar was; that wasn’t the case for the raw desire I felt for the tattooed gladiator as he led me away from the chapel and into a tinted SUV.

Four others to match drove behind and in front of us as we made our way to his home.

He sat across from me staring, his finger rubbing his lip mindlessly. I turned my head to the left of me watching the beauty of what was my country pass me by.

But I knew he was still staring at me, analyzing me, studying me causing the hairs on my skin to stand annoyingly straight.

The city’s buildings that were a constant outside my window were no more as green pastures and trees were now in my line of vision.

A stone guard wall was all I could see in the distance but what it was protecting was unknown to me. We headed up a marl path, the bumpiness jotting me in my seat, my breasts moved like liquid in the silk dress I wore with every bump of the unfinished road.

It felt like we were driving forever until we finally started to drive on a paved road. I heard a gate being opened when we stopped. I had no time to look out my window as the driver hopped to my side, opening my door.
