I hummed. I wasn't satisfied but it would have to do.

With one last look at the pissed-covered man, turning my nose up in disgust, I nodded at Eli to kill the fucking bastard.

Any threat to my wife would be annihilated.

“How do you know it was Alexsei?” Jericho said as he sat in my office.

Jericho met me at my house after he heard about the incident. I knew that the council sent him to see if I went on a killing spree yet, given my show the last time we met was nothing but a trailer.

“The man said his orders were clear. To kill my wife. Not me but my wife.”

"You cut him. Shouldn't the order be to kill you too?"

"Killing my wife hurts me and avenges his father's death. Two birds; one stone. I would do the same."

Jericho sighed and walked to the small bar in my office.

“Where is he now?” Jericho asked.

“Dead I assume. Eli and Silas dealt with him.”

He added two ice cubes to his glass before he poured the brown liquid I had stashed.

“You’ll have to be discreet. The council is unsettled, and your mere intuition isn’t going to sell them on attacking Alexsei,” he said taking a sip from his glass.

I chuckled.

Jericho knew me better than to stand down so this was his way of playing mediator between the council and me.

The ideal outcome would be I get my revenge while the council feels like they have some power over what happens in this country and, by default, me.

“The only fucking reason that the council has a country to call ‘shots’ is because I stopped the politicians from running them out of it after Dagon made a mess of everything.”

“Trust that they know that. Just be careful. This is not the time for conflict in our inner circle when new blood is itching to take over. There are more Michaels out there,” Jericho said, referring to Mia’s brother.

His ambition was well known. The moves he made as well. So far he had impressed some powerful people and that was a threat for others- I wasn’t one of them.

Quite the opposite. I applauded his efforts and I believed he would make a great partner which is why I even listened to his proposal to marry his sister in the first place.

However, I understood what Jericho was saying but Mia would always be my priority and, quite frankly, I didn’t give a fuck who that offended.

Pushing from my chair, I leaned forward intertwining my hands on the desk in front of me, I look squarely at Jericho so he could see the fire that burned at my irises.

“I need you to listen to me carefully, Jericho. Alexsei attacked my fucking wife, hiring some backdoor hitman to do it, so you and the council can fuck off. And anybody that stands in my way of making that fucker bleed, will bleed along with him…Do you understand me?”

“Understood.”

Chapter Twenty-Five

MIA

Ilaid in bed, unable to move- even locking the door when Elizabeth visited me. Today was her last day before she return to Bursia for university.

I wanted to say I was numb but I was the opposite. I felt every nasty, toe-curling emotion that came with seeing your husband shot.

Being with him, made me feel that he was invincible but seeing that a bullet could penetrate the skin that I thought impenetrable shattered me.
