He stares me down with a tick in his jaw.

“I can’t explain the things I do for you Anna. Only that I won’t leave a crazy vampire out there who wants to hurt you and if I tell the director about Rion, they’ll take him and we could be off the case. Even if we don’t get along, you’re safe with me.”

My jaw drops open at his confession. He just turns and leaves.

That sounded like he cares about me. What’s crazier, I do feel safe with him.

Felix walks up while I’m still staring up the stairs.

“What did you have to talk to Aksel about?” He asks.

“Just trying to understand him,” I answer. “It will be weird without you here tonight. I’ve gotten used to being with you.”

He smiles, leaning in to kiss my nose. “Me too Kitten. I’ll be back by the time you wake up. If you miss me, tap into the bond.” He taps my chest.

“Alright.”

“Maybe you can spend some time with Griffyn, or even Blaze?” He wags his eyebrows obnoxiously.

I slap his arm. “Maybe.”

“I gotta say, I did not see him making his move so soon.”

“You knew he was interested in me?” I ask, surprised.

Felix laughs. “Of course I did. I’ve been secretly trying to poke him along. You didn’t know him before he met you, he was even quieter and surlier than now. I’m pretty sure he’s been trying to be more approachable for you.”

I feel a smile stretch my lips. I’ve always felt attracted and drawn to Blaze, but until recently I thought that was one-sided. But according to Felix, he’s been interested in me this whole time.

Next, he’ll say Aksel is attracted to me too. That would be laughable. Of course, a part of me would love to hear that, but I can’t admit that aloud.

Except, Felix is my mate and I should probably be honest about where my attractions lie to him.

“Did you know I liked Blaze?” I ask.

“All I do is watch you, Kitten. I saw every stolen glance and wandering eyes, so yes I suspected. I’ll be happy if you’re happy.”

I lean up and kiss him softly. His soft lips press against mine as I run my tongue across the seam. He opens up immediately and our tongues meet, tangling together.

“You’re incredible, do you know that?”

“Yes, I do. You’re so lucky to have me as a mate,” he says.

I laugh. “Yes I am. And since you’re so incredible I want to be honest.”

He smiles softly. “You can tell me anything.”

I swallow around the lump in my throat. “Not that I think anything will ever happen and I’m probably crazy for even feeling this way-”

He runs a hand up my arm. “Just tell me.”

“I’m attracted to Aksel!” I blurt out.

Felix throws his head back and laughs hard enough that I punch him in the arm.

“I’m sorry, I’m sorry. I shouldn’t be laughing. It’s not you at all. It’s just funny that somehow he can be who he is and you’re still into him. I guessed that too.”

I try to suppress it but the corners of my lips tilt up. “I don’t know how it’s possible. It’s the rare times he’s nice that get me, which is so pathetic.”
