Page 8 of Deceived

His eyes stay closed but he does release me. I snag an oversized t-shirt from the drawer, one I like to sleep in, and put it on. When I open the door, I peek around it to see Felix on the other side before opening it all the way. His hair is perfectly coiled into loose curls and styled away from his face. There’s a little stubble decorating that sharp jawline. He looks sexy as hell.

I can’t help glancing down at my disheveled state compared to how he looks. I’m worried about how he’ll react to seeing me like this after a night with Griffyn, but of course, he’s perfect.

“Don’t. You look sexy as hell mussed up like this.”

A smile stretches across my face and I ask, “So, why do I have you at my door this morning?”

“I was wondering if I could take you somewhere today? Just the two of us,” Felix asks me.

I wonder what Aksel and the rest will think but I won’t dwell on it. They aren’t my main concern and they definitely don’t dictate where I go. Still…

“What about Ryan? Shouldn’t we be questioning him today?” I ask.

“He can wait. Before you ask, I’ve ensured the others will wait to question him until we are back. Blaze promised and he can hold Aksel back while we’re gone.”

“You’ve thought of everything. Sure Felix, where to?” I ask.

I don’t mind delaying the Ryan confrontation a little longer.

His smile is soft and shy. Like he’s nervous about where he’s bringing me.

“It’s a surprise, but you’ll need to dress warm so bundle up.” He grabs a bag from behind him, thrusting it into my arms. “This should have everything you need. I’ll wait while you get dressed.”

I step back into my room and take a quick shower. When I open the bag after, there are some underlayers designed for warmth, a large puffy top coat, gloves, and a winter hat. These clothes are certainly designed for warmth so we must be going somewhere cold.

Griffyn is back asleep, not even noticing what’s going on around him.

I dress quickly, covering every inch of myself with the clothes Felix has provided. When I reopen the door, Felix is waiting on the other side with a broad smile.

“You look good bundled up like that.”

I’m pretty sure I feel a blush on my cheeks. This feels like a date. Which might be exactly what I need to accept this mate thing.

“Shall we?” He holds out his elbow like a gentleman and guides me down the stairs.

“Should I grab something to eat?” I ask. I didn’t have breakfast.

“No, don’t worry. I’m certain you’ll be fed.”

We exit the front door before he pulls a transport charm from his coat and uses it.

My stomach lurches as we travel through space to a new place. When I open my eyes I’m surrounded by bright white. There’s snow everywhere. Piles of it surround us and plume as we land.

“Where are we?” I ask.

Felix grins. “The mountain ranges in Alaska, my home.”

I pivot to look him in the eyes. “You brought me to meet your family?”

No wonder he told me to bundle up. It’s freezing here, even in the summertime. I shiver despite having all these layers on.

“Yup, now let’s get you inside before you freeze.”

He’s barely covered up with only a long sleeve shirt and jeans on. He should have instant frostbite but I guess his inner snow leopard keeps him warm.

He wraps an arm around my shoulder, tucking me into his heat before we make our way over to a cabin. It’s well-built with dark logs and a chimney with smoke shooting out of it. It looks like something you would find in a fairy tale.

There are other cabins in the area with kids running around them. Kids in barely any clothes diving into the snow to escape their friends. I’m pretty sure I even see what looks like an Arctic fox zip past, but it was so fast, it’s hard to be sure.
