She’s trying to take care of me. I feel awkward being out of the basement, like I don’t belong here but then I breathe in Anna’s scent and know this is exactly where I need to be.

“Where will you put your stuff?” I ask.

She blushes. It’s the cutest tint of pink on her perfect skin.

“Well, Felix and I are mated now, so I’ll put it in his room. I know he won’t mind, he’s been bugging me to do it since we bonded.”

A fresh wave of jealousy runs through my system. I don’t hate Felix, he’s even been pretty nice to me all things considered, but once upon a time, I had Anna the way he does now. They are so natural together like they fit perfectly. I guess being her fated mate will do that.

“Should we plan a time to go shopping?” Anna asks.

I scratch my cheek with restless energy. “I’m fine.”

“Nonsense! You need at least clothes and necessities, although I’m sure Felix and Griffyn will keep sharing with you.”

“I, uh, don’t have any money, Anna,” I tell her.

She doesn’t miss a beat. “Of course not. You were held prisoner by your psycho brother. I know you don’t have anything on you.”

“I don’t have any money, at all.”

She blinks. “I’ll admit I didn’t expect that. Doesn’t matter though. I’ll help you out or we will steal Aksel’s credit card, Heaven knows he owes you.”

I do hate that gobshite.

“I can’t accept your money.”

“Then Aksel’s it is. I don’t mind fucking with him for the greater good.” She hesitates a second then says, “Can I ask you a question?”

“Of course, anything.”

“How is it possible you don’t have anything sitting out there waiting for you when you’ve been alive so long? Did Killian take that from you too?”

“He’s taken everything from me.”

Including you Anna.

Maybe it’s time I tell her the entire truth. It’s not something I could say with the spell on me and I wasn’t about to give my life story to those guys, but Anna deserves to know everything.

“Killian was always off. The smallest thing would upset him or set him off on me. He wanted to control my life and I wanted to escape. At twenty-six I decided to leave Ireland behind and he freaked out on me. Next thing I knew, there were enchanted blades in every inch of me but my heart and neck. I was alive, but barely.

He trapped me, starving me of blood until I was mummified. I slept for close to three thousand years while the world went on around me and I missed out on my life. I don’t remember all of it so it wasn’t three thousand years of pure torture at least.

I don’t know what woke me up, but when I did, I was starving. I came to and I ran as fast and far as I could out of Ireland and to the United States. Everyone I knew was dead and the world around me completely changed. Technology and society were overwhelming. It had only been a year of me trying to adjust when I came across Brickstone and met you.”

Her eyes water. “Rion, I’m so sorry that happened to you.”

“Thank you,” I rasp out. My throat feels raw from telling my story.

“I don’t know if this helps or if it’s worth very much, but I want to start over. I don’t want the past to dictate our lives or determine our futures.”

“I would love that,” I tell her honestly.

My entire existence has been controlled by Killian. I want a future surrounded by Anna instead.

I help her carry her clothes and personal items over to Felix’s room. He’s in there waiting. Both of their scents cover the space, it’s obvious they spend a lot of time here together.

“Felix, Rion needs the necessities like clothes and a toothbrush. We are going to the store. Will you come with us? We don’t want to be caught off guard,” Anna asks.
