As much as I would rather do this just her and me, she’s right it’s not safe to go alone. I didn’t keep her safe the first time so why would she trust me now?

“Sure,” Felix says. His eyes keep snapping between us in curiosity.

Anna claps. “Great! I’ll go get Aksel’s credit card and then we can go.”

She skips out of the room before I can stop her, leaving me alone with Felix.

“So, how does it feel to be out of Killian’s clutches? Removing that spell must have been a relief.” He gives me a tentative smile.

I try to return it. “Yeah, I’m glad to be out of the basement. I’m grateful you guys are letting me help get Killian.”

Not that I would go fucking anywhere else but it’s probably best to be pleasant.

“Anna’s right, you deserve revenge too. I hated you on sight but, it’s harder to hate you than I thought it would be. It meant a lot that you stayed locked up until we found a weaver.”

I like him the best. It’s a good thing since he’s already mated to Anna and I don’t plan on giving up where she’s concerned.

“I would do anything to keep Anna safe,” I tell him honestly.

He nods like that was the right answer.

We stand together in awkward silence until Anna comes back, holding a credit card up in the air.

“I’ve got it and he doesn’t know it’s missing so let’s have some fun with this thing before we get caught. Rion, you need all the essentials along with some clothes so let’s go somewhere that has it all.”

I follow her out, not doubting her shopping skills. We pile into a black SUV that’s sitting in the garage.

“He might kill us when he sees this is gone,” Felix says.

Who?

Anna laughs. “Like I said, he owes Rion so I don’t mind making him cash in on it. It’s the only car we have here. Actually, we should pick up my car while we are out so we have a second one.”

“Sure,” Felix says.

He let me have the front seat. I watch the houses pass us by until we pull up to a huge superstore that is way bigger than necessary.

“Here we go! They will have everything you need.”

When we get out of the car, Anna grabs my hand and drags me behind her inside.

I’ll let her do whatever she wants as long as I get to be with her while she does it.

Taking care of me is just the second-best option. Me taking care of her is first.

Twenty Nine

Aksel

You and your team’s presence is required tonight at 8:00 pm. My home. Make sure Felix brings his mate.

My gut hardens, turning to lead and sinking as I read the text.

Why is my dad inviting us over? Although calling that an invitation is a stretch. It’s a summons.

Is this because I asked him about the amulet? The conversation is still fresh in my memory.

“Father.”
