So many doubts surface when I think about him. He scares me – a lot. His dark, brooding eyes and strong jaw tell me he’s a man who is used to getting what he wants. That chest that smelled divine when I snuggled against it and those strong arms that held me so tenderly caused a reaction I am still struggling to understand. I felt something in those arms. More than one thing. They were safe, strangely addictive, and I was disappointed when he freed me.

His personality could sure use some work and this place may as well have tumbleweed blowing through it. He’s a strange one for sure, but maybe I could work on that.

When he fired Miss. Sinclair, I was delighted. I admired that about him. He didn’t agree with what she did and acted accordingly. That proves he is a good man. An honorable man. He has acted courteous, polite, and is a gentleman. Could he also be my husband?

I glance around at the mansion that sprawls in the countryside like a majestic jewel. It is the biggest, most magnificent building I’ve ever seen in my life. Is it a home, though? Will I be happy here?

There are so many questions causing me to switch between decisions and the hour passes quickly when I see the man himself heading out into the sunlight.

My reaction to him astonishes me because it’s as if my body wakes up and is anticipating his return. A soft shiver of pleasure ripples through it as I react to his appearance. He is possibly the most attractive man I have ever met, and it appears I am attracted to him. Is that enough, though?

My grains of sand have hit the bottom of the timer because he approaches and fixes me with a calculating expression.

“Your decision is…”

He drops into the seat he vacated what seems like seconds ago and fixes me with a brooding stare that heats my blood curiously.

“With certain conditions, I believe I have.”

He smirks, causing me to laugh softly.

“You have already guessed my answer?”

“Your conditions gave it away.”

“I haven’t told you what they are.”

“You didn’t need to. The fact they are a consideration means you will accept, but require negotiation. I like that.”

“You do?”

“It’s best business practice and we both know this is a business arrangement, so I would be disappointed if you had no conditions.”

He leans back in his chair and studies me through deepening eyes, and it fascinates me. My mouth dries as I stare at him, but I can’t say the same about the heat that spreads through my body like a bush fire.

He affects me, but I don’t understand why, and I shake him out of my head and fix him with cool regard instead.

“The contract will be drawn up professionally with the conditions attached.”

“Of course.”

I take a deep breath.

“We work together as equals.”

“In our marriage, of course.”

“Good. Um, children?”

He raises his eyes and I say quickly. “Will you be expecting me to provide you with one?”

“One?” He appears almost amused.

“Well. Do you?”

He appears to consider his answer and then says with a wicked smile.

“Yes.”
