“You are correct.” Her eyes widen and I sit on the bed and stare at her malevolently, causing her to shift on her feet and clasp her fingers together as if in prayer.

“I am ruthless, Purity. It goes with the job.”

“Acquisitions?” she says nervously, and I nod.

“I take things and either tear them apart or build them up to be more magnificent. If they have potential, they become better, if there is no hope, I put them out of their misery.”

“Am I an acquisition?” She says bravely and her direct gaze heats my blood as I say huskily, “I suppose you are.”

“Which category do I fall into?” She says with bated breath. “Will you build me up or tear me down?”

“That depends on whether I see potential or not.”

She nods, glancing around the room and then, smiling, says softly. “Maybe I should steal a page from your book and do the same to you.”

“That would be interesting.”

“It would.”

She moves closer with small baby steps and says with a slight hitch to her voice. “I’m guessing you don’t like to lose, Killian. I imagine you get everything you want in life and anything you don’t have you didn’t want in the first place. I wonder what you would do if something was so far out of reach you couldn’t grasp it. What would you do then?”

She is closer now and, in a flash, I reach out and grasp her wrist, tugging her sharply onto my lap and pulling her arm behind her back with one hand and tilting her face to mine with the other. Then I whisper against her lips, “I reach for a ladder.”

Her soft laugh makes me smile and I am so tempted to take her now. To unravel the innocence and watch it drift from her soul forever. To turn the innocent into the starving wanton slut women become around me. To crave what I can do and beg for more. To ruin it and crush it under my depraved ravenous appetite and to hear her scream my name as she comes so hard it shatters her soul.

It would be so easy. To deal with something that is inevitable. However, the fun is in the chase, and I am having way more fun than I’ve had in ages, so I release her and smile respectfully.

“Come. The contract is ready to be signed.”

“So soon.”

She appears amazed about that, and I laugh softly, “I gave you one hour, Purity. I used that time wisely and had the contract drawn up. It has arrived in my inbox, so we will print it out and sign it. Then we can begin.”

“Begin?”

Her face is flushed and I fucking love it and as I stare at the excitement shining in her eyes, I wonder if somehow, in one twisted fucked up way, fate has delivered the better half of my soul.

CHAPTER15

PURITY

We head downstairs and toward his den. I remember it from my tour and although I gained a swift glimpse, I already knew it was an intimidating place. Dark paneled walls are illuminated by subdued lighting. The thick dark blue carpet appears brand new, and the bookcases set along the far wall are bursting with books that look as if they have never been read.

Three chairs are placed around a desk behind which is one huge leather studded chair that provides a throne for the king, and I really do look at him like that because Killian Vieri conducts himself as a ruler. He has an aura and a presence that commands attention and respect.

There is an oil painting above a huge fireplace of a beautiful house surrounded by orange groves, and I love the peace in that painting. I can sense the warmth of the sun and feel the breeze causing the leaves on the trees to sway. I stare in awe, wondering where on earth this place is and I’m surprised when he stands by my side and whispers huskily, “Serenita.”

“Is that what it’s called?”

I’m in awe of it and he nods, a certain pride in his voice.

“It is home.”

“Where you were raised?”

“No. Where my family live. My grandparents.”

“Is it far?”
