KILLIAN

She said yes. I am almost disappointed about that because I relish the kill. The fight and the ultimate win. However, the most delicious part of this contract is ruining her soul and molding her into my perfect woman to slay my enemies.

Tearing away her innocence and crushing that hope that sparkles in her eyes. She belongs to me now and I must tread carefully until she signs on the broken line. I will be Prince fucking Charming until I reveal the devil inside because Purity Sanders has just agreed to be my weapon, to forge a dynasty that will ensure the Dark Lords is brought back firmly under the control of the family who created it in the first place.

Clean up your act, my grandfather said. Become whiter than white and control your enemies, giving them no weapons to use to create your downfall. Purity will shroud my dark edges and radiate light in the darkest world. She is my salvation and my revenge, and I will enjoy every second of it.

She looks so happy I bask in it. Women don’t look like that when they do business with me. There is emptiness in their eyes as they sign their soul over to me, knowing they had no other choice. They know the price. She does not and so I drown in her innocence, loving how it runs like a sweet balm over my battered soul. I want to reach out and touch it. To caress it, savor it and inhale it. Pure innocence doesn’t visit me often and now it’s here I am never letting it go.

I extend my hand and as her small soft one settles inside the power radiates through me. It calms the vile blood that runs like an evil virus through my body. The blood of the damned that met their ruin through what I want. Hers mingles with theirs as I smile into her eyes, loving the pure honesty in her eyes as she smiles into mine.

“Come. I’ll show you around your new home.”

She nods with an excitement that makes me smile. So eager. I wonder how long it will take for that light to dim in her eyes when the full reality of her situation reaches out and socks her hard.

I cling onto her hand, loving that I have conquered her already, and she doesn’t even know it, and as we walk back into the house, I make easy conversation.

It takes a while to show her around my home. It’s rare I do the tour myself and seeing it through her eyes is refreshing. Every room we head into causes her to gasp and squeeze my hand a little more and the light in her expression makes me smile.

“I love your home, Killian.” She smiles as we head upstairs, and I nod. “Thank you.”

“How old is it?”

“Three years.”

“Really, it seems older than that. In a good way, of course.” She adds quickly and I shrug. “It suits me.”

“But it’s so large. Don’t you get lonely?” She enquires, and I shake my head. “I don’t. I sleep, eat and work out here. Catch a bit of television before I head to bed. I work most of the day and into the night and occasionally head out to functions.”

“On your own?” She adds hesitantly and I shake my head.

“No. I have companions.”

“Oh.” She falls silent and I say dismissively, “They are convenient. Women who enjoy an expensive meal in the finest restaurant or attending the most sought-after show in town. They make up a space beside me. That is all.”

“Is that what you’re paying me to do?”

Her voice catches and I know how desperate a woman like Purity is for the fairy tale. It’s just a shame she opened the wrong book.

“Yes.” I turn and note the disappointment clouding her eyes and taking her face in my hands, I adore her startled expression as I hover close to her lips and whisper, “Your job is very different to that. I’ve never had a wife before and that affords you my respect.”

Her lip trembles and her eyes sparkle as her breathing intensifies and I say huskily, “Our relationship will be a more intimate one. Are you okay with that?”

She is like a frightened animal caught in a trap and she trembles in my grasp causing a rush of power to surge through me as I hold pure innocence in my hands.

“Yes.” Her answer is slightly breathless, and I can’t help myself as my lips gently touch hers, tasting sweet against my seasoned ones. Her lips part easily, and I inhale the sweet scent of fresh air and honey that promises to become my addiction. So fresh, so pure, like an unwrapped book of secrets waiting to be told. Untouched and pure, something I never knew would be intoxicating until now.

For my own self-preservation I pull away and love the disappointment that clouds her eyes and say firmly, “Allow me to show you the bedrooms.”

Her breath is racing, and I love the pink tinge to her cheeks as she scampers after me as I head toward the nearest bedroom. She appears almost distracted as I show her around and then as we step inside my own suite of rooms, I sense the tense atmosphere as she stands in the doorway and whispers, “This room smells of you.”

“Interesting.” I turn and smile softly. “Tell me what I smell of.”

“Sandalwood, musk, and temptation.”

She stares straight into my eyes as she says it and I have a renewed respect for Purity Sanders.

“Temptation.” I cock my head to one side, and she nods slowly. “You wear your masculinity like an aftershave. It’s intense, intriguing and potent. This room smells like that. It feels forbidden, almost as if I shouldn’t be here. Intimate even and as if it holds a million secrets. Like you.”
