The cinema roomis my new favorite place. My eyes are wide as I peer around the space that is bigger than my childhood home. There is a huge screen on one wall and around eight seats that appear to recline, with tables set in the armrests and cushions and blankets to snuggle into. James has set a tray of popcorn and a large glass of sparkling liquid on one, and my heart sinks.

“Must I have more of that sparkling stuff? It’s seriously disgusting.”

He says with a twinkle in his eyes. “Try this. It has no alcohol in it.”

Tentatively, I take a sip and my eyes light with pleasure. “What is it?”

“Lime cordial and soda. Lots of ice and a squeeze of fresh lime with mint leaves.”

“I love it.”

I am so relieved, and he appears happy at my praise.

“What movie would you like to watch, ma’am?”

He flicks a remote at the screen and it appears as if a thousand movies flash before my disbelieving eyes.

“May I?” I reach for the remote and he hands it to me with a brief nod of respect. “Of course. Please call me if you need anything.”

“I will, oh and thank you, James. I appreciate your help.”

I smile, causing him to return it before leaving the room and I settle into the cozy seat and make full use of my new toy as I select a movie that appears to be just what I’m looking for.

Several movies later, many lime and sodas and a lunch tray that was delivered to my seat, the door opens, and I hear an amused, “So this is what you do all day?”

I glance up and hate that my heart flutters when I see my husband watching me with amusement from the open doorway. His tie is loosened at the neck and his jacket held over his shoulder, that he tosses on the nearest seat as he prowls into the room, closing the door behind him.

The gleam in his eye is almost predatory and my heart quickens as I sense he’s about to pounce.

Standing quickly, I hold up my hand and say icily, “Stop right there.”

“Why?” His smile irritates the shit out of me.

“Because I’m angry with you.”

“Because–?” he grins, causing me to snap. “Because you are rude, arrogant and think you have the right to do what you want to me with no regard for my feelings. Well, for your information, asshole, you can’t.”

I swallow hard as his eyes flash with danger, and he drops into the nearest seat and leans back, staring at me with an expression in his eye that should scare the panties off me.

“I have a contract that says I can.”

He shrugs. “Your signature is on the bottom line, agreeing to it.”

“No, I didn’t.” I say earnestly and he leans forward and says in a low voice, “Are you saying you didn’t sign the contract, Purity, because we both know you did.”

“Of course I signed it, but I didn’t sign my soul away. I have feelings, too. If I wanted to be a man’s possession, I would have stayed in Heaven.”

“But you ran to me.” He says with a wicked grin. “And you signed my contract. I fail to understand what the problem is.”

Thinking back on the movies I have devoured all day, I flop into the nearest seat and say sadly, “I thought it would be better.”

“What would be better?”

“Marriage to you.”
