“You’re lying. He’s a good man. I know he is.”

I step away, the tears raining on my parade as she carries on delivering every well-aimed blow.

“Ask yourself why he lives alone? Why he is so protected? Why he hates his father and why he has no friends? Because he is evil, Purity. Pure evil and he will ruin you and leave you broken and disillusioned with life before reaching out and plucking a fresh face to replace you. I am proof of that.”

She twists her lips into a wicked grin and hisses, “I was his fuck toy, too. He liked to tie me up and fuck me raw. Beat me, choke me, and whip me. I loved it. I craved it even because when a powerful man directs his attention on you, it’s an aphrodisiac that hooks you bad.”

I feel sick and turn away and her rough hand spins me around and she snarls, “Ask yourself why he is so cold. So distant sometimes. Because he will never let you inside his cold black heart. You will be destroyed, Purity, like everyone who has the misfortune of falling into his trap. If you don’t believe me, ask him. Ask him about the whores he fucks and the ones he exploits. The wild parties where men use women as toys. The drugs they inject in them just like the one they injected into you. The way they are tied up and passed around a roomful of horny men and left with nothing but a wad of dollar bills stuffed up their ass.”

She laughs out loud. “Congratulations, Purity, you married Lucifer himself. I hope you will be very happy.”

She turns away, after having ripped the soul from inside me. I sag against the balustrade as her words do irreparable damage.

My mind is racing and my breathing shallow as I digest everything she told me and I choke on it. I want to disbelieve everything she told me, but something is telling me she’s right. That place Miss. Sinclair took me to is owned by my husband and I wasn’t rescued at all. I just swapped one cage for another.

I don’t know what to do. I have no place to go, no one to turn to. Even the phone I had as my lifeline has mysteriously disappeared. The last time I saw it was on the island on my wedding day, but it never made it back with us.

I am cut off.

Alone and afraid because the man I trusted and was so close to falling in love with, has turned out to be the devil in disguise.

CHAPTER44

KILLIAN

Gina tells me everything I need to hear and finishes up with a soft, “She’s good for you, Kill. Hold on to that one.”

“I intend to.” I say, as I stare around the dance floor for her. I notice Jefferson on the side, raising his glass in our direction and my blood chills.

Where is my wife?

I break away from Gina and say quickly, “I must find Purity.”

She looks anxious. “Isn’t she with Jefferson?”

“Apparently not. Go and find out what happened.”

I order her and, like the good little employee, she scurries off to do my bidding. Our conversation is forgotten already as I experience a moment of panic as I search for my wife.

I notice my father standing beside Gabriella and my blood actually boils as they smirk in my direction before turning and walking away.

Hand in hand.

It’s as if all my senses are screaming at me and I experience blind panic as Saint heads to my side and says with concern. “What’s wrong?”

“Purity.” My words are rough and urgent. “Where is she?”

Saint touches my arm and nods in the direction behind me and as I spin around, I am awash with relief when she walks back into the room.

I waste no time in rushing to her side and I can immediately tell something has changed. She’s been crying and I swear I summon every dark demon inside me as I prepare to punish whoever did this.

“What happened?” I waste no time and grabbing her arm, pull her back the way she came, the cool night air doing little to douse the flames burning inside me.

“Miss. Sinclair.”

She says the two words I should have prepared for, and I grip her wrist tightly and hiss, “What did she tell you?”

“The truth, Killian.”
