“Don’t you dare lecture me about respecting my family. I won’t take it from a man who turned his back on his many years ago.”

I slam my fist on the desk and say roughly, “You screwed around behind our mother’s back and drove her into another man’s arms. You broke up our ‘not so happy’ family and couldn’t give a fuck. Then you moved in your whore and screwed her with no regard if we heard you or not. You refused to take your position in the family business, preferring instead to build up your own empire. Yourrivalempire, taking deals that should have been ours and betraying your own parents. You are a fucking disgrace who doesn’t deserve the name Vieri.”

“I don’t know what you’ve heard, but you’re wrong, Killian.”

He stares at me straight in the eye and says softly, “I have built an empire that is free of the sins of my father. I am respected, admired, and free from crime, unlike my father. You should applaud me for putting our futures first, instead of working in an antiquated world that will be a dinosaur sooner than you think.”

I slide the photograph across the desk and note the disbelief in his eyes as he realizes he’s screwed.

“Respect. Is this what you call building a business different from the one you grew up with?”

“That proves nothing.” He tosses it back to me and I glance at Gabriella, who has turned a lot paler than when she came in.

“Do you remember this day, Gabriella?”

“I don’t.”

She shrugs and I laugh softly. “Well, I do. You were sent to Heaven to meet with Elijah Sanders to check out his shipment. If I remember rightly, you were sent there alone and when you returned, you told me the shit was bad quality and wouldn’t pass the most basic tests.”

“Did I? I don’t remember.”

I shake my head.

“Do you also not remember the call you took only last week from a man called Howard Montgomery?”

Now they both look uneasy, and she hisses, “You’ve been spying on me.”

“I have.” I shrug and say with a wicked grin. “It appears you prefer to do business under the covers now. Howard Montgomery visited your apartment and the surveillance we set up showed what an intimate discussion you had.”

“You bastard.” She stands and glares at me from across the desk. “You should know, Killian. I screwed you enough times for information.”

I say nothing and she stops as the words deliver her death sentence and she turns red and says quickly, “I mean …” She is lost for words and then changes direction and bursts into tears.

“I loved you. I wanted to prove to you that I was good enough—for you. I did everything you asked, and I would have killed for you. Then that girl showed up, and you cut me out. You fucking married her, Killian, so what was I supposed to do? I have needs, both physical and financial. I took a job with your father because he has proven to be a far better man than you ever were.”

My father appears annoyed at her outburst and says roughly, “Shut the fuck up and sit down. You’re embarrassing yourself.”

She stares at him with pure hatred burning in her eyes. “Fuck you, Benito. You don’t…”

A sharp sound like whiplash interrupts her delivery as my father strikes her hard across the face, causing her head to fall to one side. An angry red mark appears as he bellows, “I said shut the fuck up, you bitch. He’s playing you. Are you so fucking stupid you can’t see that? He is after information. Are you so dumb you’ve forgotten how this business works?”

She holds her face with her hand and sits sobbing in the chair and I enjoy a moment’s satisfaction knowing she is defeated before I’ve even begun.

My father glares at me. “What’s the point of all this, Killian? State the purpose of this meeting.”

I turn my attention to my father and lean back in my chair, fixing him with an enigmatic stare.

“I want the name of the man you are working with.”

“Who says I’m working with anyone? You’ve got to do better than that.”

“It doesn’t matter.” I shrug and turn to Saint, who nods, replacing his phone in his pocket.

“I already know.”

This time, I glare at my father and say bitterly, “I just wanted to test your loyalty and guess what, you failed the test.”

I stand and nod toward the door that Saint has opened.
