That forces a laugh out of me.

"My best friend from university. We used to play together, but for him it was just a hobby. I think she’s his sister. I'm not sure, though. I only remember seeing pictures of her when she was young, and they have the same name."

"Well, even if she is his sister, it doesn't matter. You both are adults. If you like each other, then you like each other."

I sigh again and stare at Drake's nonchalant face.

"You take things too lightly."

Drake laughs and flicks my forehead as he stands up.

"No, you take things too seriously."

"Drake?"

"Yeah?"

"I don't want it to be just one night."

Drake talks a deep breath before he smirks.

"Then you better prove that to her too. She is the one who needs to know that, not me. Try to contact her if you can and tell her how you feel about her."

.

The insistent ringing of my phone wakes me up. The caller ID highlights Aiden's face, and I pick up instantly.

"Hello?"

"Ethan! Oh, thank God you picked up. Listen, I need your help. Or rather, my sister needs your help."

My mind spirals with the possibility of Olivia as Aiden's sister.

"What's the matter?"

"Okay, so I wouldn't normally disturb you with my problems, but I'm out of options here."

I ignore the stinging feeling of being the last resort and swallow it down.

"Never mind that, what's wrong?"

.

"I hate my life. I hate it because it doesn’t leave me any liberty to protect my dignity."

"Shh, calm down, Olive. God, you're such a diva."

"You're not the one whose apartment flooded because of a plumbing issue. You would think with a price like that, the apartment would have everything well-constructed, but no. It just had to be the plumbing!"

I open the door as soon as I hear my two guests squabbling outside. My heart flutters in my chest as I realize that the woman who has been clouding my mind since that night is on the other side of my door. I hope fate has provided me with this chance to prove myself to her.

As it turns out, fate is not on my side. Olivia gapes as she stands in front of me, while I sheepishly scratch the nape of my neck as I invite the siblings into my home. Olivia drags her suitcase behind her as she watches Aiden hug me in greeting, and she narrows her eyes at my smile. Her glare sends shivers down my spine, and I wonder what I have done to earn such a reaction.

"Sorry to do this to you, buddy. Olive, sorry, I mean Olivia is my sister. I told you about her. She had her apartment flooded due to poor plumbing, and she doesn't have a place to stay. I asked her to live with me, but she said no since Lily is pregnant and I’m busy taking care of her."

"She is your wife. That is what you should be doing instead of worrying about me."

Aiden hushes his sister by patting her head. I can tell she doesn't appreciate that from her older brother with how she glares at the back of his head.
