"Anyway, I thought she could live with you until we work something out?"

I smile and grasp Aiden's shoulder.

"You don't need to explain anything to me. I already told you I'm okay with it. Why don't I give you guys a tour, and your sister can set up."

Aiden beams at me.

"That's perfect. Come on, Olive."

Olivia keeps her responses curt and quiet as Aiden spends a few hours helping her settle in before leaving us to our own devices.

"Goodbye, Olive. Don't cause trouble, okay? Lily says hello to both of you, by the way!" he calls out.

"I’m not a child," Olivia shouts back at his laughing figure as he leaves.

She looks as if fuming in silence with her hands fisted at her sides when I snicker out loud.

"Olive?"

"Don't you dare laugh, liar!"

My chuckles stop, but my grin remains on my face.

"And how am I a liar?"

Olivia looks at me in anger and jabs a finger on my chest.

"You had the nerve to make a fool of me at that charity event. You pretended not to know me and flirted for what? To see how far you could go?"

My smile drops from my face as I gently hold her wrists in my hands, stopping their offense on my body.

"You're misunderstanding me, Olivia. I didn’t recognize you as Aiden's sister when I approached you. You looked familiar, but not enough for me to draw a connection. This is as much of a surprise for me as it is for you. And I thought I made myself clear that night. I don't like people judging me based on rumors. I would never treat you that way."

My voice sounds disappointed at Olivia's broken promise.

"I apologize. I spoke out of line."

I return a gentle smile on my face.

"You're forgiven. I don't want us to fight while we’re living together. You’re welcome to any part of the apartment. If there you have any questions, you can reach out to me at any time. I'll let you know when I'll be out of the house so you know where I am, and you can call me on my phone. Alright? You're welcome here."

Olivia smiles and shakes the hand I reach out.

"Thank you."

Olivia

Thenextfewdayspass in comfortable bliss. Ethan gave me the guest room, and with both of us working, we mostly met in the morning when I made us breakfast as a thank him for letting me stay with him.

Every time we were forced to be close while navigating to different kitchen counters and cabinets, our arms would brush against each other, fingers would meet, and eyes would catch sight of each other. My cheeks would flush, and Ethan would avoid my eyes and chuckle.

He never stops flirting, often giving me compliments on the outfits I choose for work in the morning. He is oddly inquisitive and attentive about my work, even though he proves to be useless in remembering his own schedule.

"Wow, Olivia. That skirt looks gorgeous."

I smile, having grown used to his compliments, and even give him a twirl. The skirt is a beautiful black with flowers printed on it and reaches my calf.
