“Oh my gosh, I can’t believe I’m meeting you. You’re even hotter in person,” Maria says. She’s wearing a vintage 5 Leo Hearts T-shirt with a photo of just my face.
“She’s single,” Aiden quickly adds.
I smile and pretend I didn’t hear him. This is when things can get awkward.
“Will you sign my arm?” Maria asks.
As I oblige, she tells me, “I’m going to get a tattoo of your signature.”
That’s one of the pressures of being a public figure. Fans like Maria put so much faith in me and I fear I’ll do something to let them down. Then she’ll regret having my signature in permanent ink on her body. Maybe she’ll want to get it removed. Or she’ll have to cover it up. I hope she at least waits to see the headlines tomorrow before she heads to a tattoo parlor.
“Might just want to take a picture instead,” I say.
“Oh, we are definitely taking a picture, too,” Maria says. “I need to post it, print it, and frame it. Maybe send it out on my holiday cards this year.”
I better give this photo my best smile. At least the lipstick smear is off my neck.
As I wrap up with the fans, I get caught up in conversation with a few other people. I don’t see Cailin in the room anymore. She must have gone back to the bus. I need to wrap this up so I can go talk to her in private. I don’t care who sees me walking onto her bus.

The restof post-show meet-and-greet flew by in an hour. Jax did his thing socializing with everyone and I spent some time hanging out with Hayley and the rest of the crew. Back on my bus, as much as I want Jax to walk in and undress me with his eyes, I change into an oversize T-shirt and shorts that are comfy for sleeping on the bunk. It’s going to be my first night sleeping alone on a tour bus and I really don’t know what to expect. Ken was sleeping all day so he is prepared to drive through the night. We have a long way to Minneapolis. I feel bad that he’s going to be driving all night, but he assured me he’s a night owl.
I don’t want to text Marisol back so late and I’m not quite sure how to respond. Instead, I text Gemma to see if she’s awake and able to talk. Of course, she calls me in one second.
“Tell me everything.”
“There’s a lot to tell, I don’t even know where to start,” I say. I sum up everything that happened since I arrived at the airport as I rest on a bunk bed.
“Wow, that is a lot,” Gemma says. “So basically, the pop star you’ve crushed on since you were a teenager thinks you ‘get him’ and is pulling out all the stops to impress you and get in your pants. And you’re loving every second of it, but also paranoid about losing your job and looking unprofessional. But now, your credibility may be on the line because traces of your secret make-out session can potentially be leaked to the media.”
“Basically, yes.” I pull the covers up to my neck, wishing I could hide under them forever.
“Have you talked to your boss?”
“Not yet. I’m not sure I should tell her that it was me. What if she fires me?”
“That might be a risk you have to take. Own up to what happened and let her know she can trust you to tell the truth. She might be able to help with damage control rather than encouraging that Jax and his mystery girl make headlines.”
“That’s true.” I have to think of this like I am the lead on crisis communication.
“Sometimes doing the right thing is the hard thing,” Gemma says. I’m glad she’s not just telling me what I want to hear. “It’ll be uncomfortable, but you’re strong and can handle whatever comes your way.”
I sigh because I know she’s right. “Thanks, I know what I have to do.”
“Okay, now that we have that settled, let’s talk about other important matters. How good of a kisser is Jax and how hot is Ridge in person? Is his wife nice?”
Leave it to Gemma to bring the conversation back to her main concerns. “Kissing Jax is very surreal. I spent most of the time in my own head about it, but I also enjoyed it very much, obviously. It’s all so new and I am afraid to get too excited, but I also want to imagine being his girlfriend for real, and not just in my dreams. And the fact that it may be a possibility is pretty wild.”
