She was still alive, and she wasn’t actively bleeding anymore, but the witch hadn’t healed herself, either.

I found that rather fucking interesting until Johnathon came for me again.

My wolf jumped back, then ran for one of the trees before using our claws to climb about ten feet up the trunk. She bounced off the hard surface and landed on top of Johnathon.

Her mouth opened wide and pointed canines punctured his skin, but his neck was so fucking large that it wouldn’t be possible to kill him this way.

We were going to have to keep injuring him enough to slow his big ass down and come up with a Plan B.

Johnathon jerked his body left to right, hard enough that my wolf lost her hold on him and went flying into the trunk of a nearby tree.

A solidthudsounded around me, and there was a slight ringing in my head, but I wasn’t down for the count. Not even close.

I encouraged my wolf to get back onto her feet and snarled up at the bastard before us.

He lifted his right front paw and tried to take my head off, but even injured, I was faster than the big fucker.

My wolf lowered to the ground, then we ran just far enough away to be out of striking distance for the moment.

I took a deep breath and tried to focus on the situation.

Johnathon was huge, but he was slow.

Hazel wasn’t using any more of her magic and was currently swaying against a rock with her eyes closed.

I hadn’t heard Sammy scream for help, and whoever had hopefully saved him hadn’t come back.

Not surprising, given the weakest of the pack faction were out here, but I wouldn’t have turned down help in any form.

Johnathon also wasn’t tiring easily. Not even the small injuries I’d made seemed to faze him.

I needed to go for weaker spots. Like his eyes. Hell, maybe even his balls. Just because I couldn’t kick him in the jewels didn’t mean I couldn’t still hurt him there.

His thunder paws reverberated through the thinning forest when he came at me again.

With a new plan in mind, I did my best to ignore the searing pain in my front flank where my shoulder had been burned with magic and the soreness in my stomach from the early hit that was only just beginning to fade.

All four feet of mine pushed off the ground, and I leapt as far right as I could. My teeth clamped down on Johnathon’s furry tail, knowing full well that this wasn’t going to hurt him, but I needed him distracted.

Sure enough, he whipped around too quickly for his size and got his own feet tangled.

The mess he’d made of himself gave me the opening I’d been looking for, and I went for his eyes.

My wolf jumped onto his back, then clawed her way to the top of his head. Her sharp nails raked across one eye with precision. Though, before we could take out the other, Johnathon had recovered and sat as if he was going to itch his head with his back foot, but instead, the asshole launched us into the air.

His front paw then swatted at my wolf with claws extended while we were still in the air. Thankfully, his aim was off, so we didn’t get skewered, but we were still slammed much harder into the ground than I’d been prepared for.

The impact was so severe that the earth around us cracked, and there was a small crater beneath my wolf that hadn’t been there before.

Fuckity fuck!

I tried to get up, but exhaustion was taking over. I had broken bones, likely internal bleeding, and who-knew-what-else wrong with me.

My eyes fluttered closed briefly, but then I saw Grayson’s face in my mind and remembered that I’d only just begun to really live my life. Was I really going to let this fucker take that away from me?

No, I wasn’t.

Come on, Wolf, I said mentally. We need to fight just a little harder.
