“Two,” Ryder replied gruffly.

And that was two more too many.

“Dad?” Sammy’s voice came from around the corner.

Ryder stood, holding his hand up. “Don’t step inside this building, Son.”

He nodded, then his eyes landed on me and welled up with tears. “Kinsley.”

“Hey, bud.” I lifted myself back up—slowly—and made my way over to where he stood.

I was surprised when he didn’t hug me, but instead, began to cry. “I’m sorry I didn’t listen.”

My fingers stroked his soft cheek. “It’s okay, Sammy.”

His lower lip jutted out. “But you were really hurt.”

“I was, but I’m getting better even as we stand here,” I promised.

“Can I hug you now?” Sammy asked. “Dad took me to see you, but they said I wasn’t allowed to touch you.”

His words felt like a dagger to my chest. “Of course. Just be gentle with me or you’ll have to carry me back to my house.”

He wiped the back of his arm under his nose and snorted. “You’re funny.” He hugged me softly, and I knew then that the world could have swallowed me up whole and I still would have chosen to save that boy.

Ryder pulled Sammy back and gestured toward me with a wave of his hand. “It’s good to see you up.”

“How can I help?” I asked, because that was why we’d come out here.

He glanced over at Grayson and then back at me. “Your mate didn’t tell you?”

I glared at the man in question. “Tell me what?”

“You’re the queen!” Sammy shouted while throwing his arms in the air in excitement.

Grayson moved to my side, wrapping an arm around my waist. “I was waiting until Lia and Markus came back. I thought you might want to celebrate together. The factions all met, and it was decided that you are welcome to the Alpha Supreme position and won’t be challenged further by anyone here.”

Holy shit.

I’d honestly expected the wolves to consider me a failure with how badly I’d been hurt. This was… It was something else entirely.

“That doesn’t mean wolves from the outlying packs in Fire and Fluorite won’t come sniffing around eventually, but the position is yours if you still want to stay here.” Ryder smiled proudly. “You’ve earned it.”

I snorted very un-queen-like. “Of course, I still fucking want it.”

Sammy gasped. “Language, Kinsley.”

His response had me laughing until my sides ached, and I had to lean into Grayson to keep upright.

This was really happening.

I was home, and I had a family, and I was going to rule an entire fucking House.

As hard as some of that was to grasp, I couldn’t have been happier in that moment.

“You told her without us?” Lia gaped with her fists on her hips. She and Markus were standing behind Ryder, and I hadn’t even seen them approach.

Sammy flinched. “Sorry.”
