His hands were shaking at his sides, and his pupils had turned to slits. I could see his wolf begging to be released, but impressively, Grayson kept his control. Mostly.

“Jeans, size six. Boots, size seven, and shirt should be a large.” I glanced down at my chest. “The twins don’t like it when they’re too constricted.”

His jaw cracked from the hard grinding of his teeth, then he slowly turned away from me, closing the door behind him. I heard him mutter something about “Virgin, my ass” but I decided not to comment.

Just because I was comfortable with my body didn’t mean I had been lying, but he could think whatever he wanted. For now, anyway.

I turned for the shower again and got in, quickly washing up and rinsing so I could see what I had missed since getting some sleep.

My skin still felt itchy even with a soft, cotton towel on my body, and my bones even seemed sore. Maybe fighting with Grayson yesterday had taken more out of me than I’d realized…

With the towel wrapped tightly around me, I exited the bathroom and went right out into the living room. There was a man standing there with two bags in his hands. Before I could get a good look at him, Grayson was suddenly in front of me, blocking my not-quite-naked body from the unknown visitor.

Grayson growled, and I heard two thuds before the door quickly closed.

I peeked around his arm and sure enough, the guy was gone, but the bags were just inside the doorway. “Was that necessary?” I droned, moving around him to find my clothes.

“Do you have no modesty?” he snapped back.

I laughed. “How was I supposed to know someone would be inside the apartment? Or that you’d storm in the bathroom as if you didn’t know I was in there already?”

He clenched his hands into fists and stomped past me, but I grabbed his wrist. “Where’s Lia?”

“Communing with nature,” he spat, then he jerked out of my hold and went to the other bedroom, slamming the door closed behind him.

Wasn’t he such a peach?

I kept the towel wrapped around me and grabbed both of the bags with one hand before heading back to the room I’d been sleeping in. I caught the time on the microwave. It blinked 11:24pm. Great, I’d only gotten two hours of sleep. I was going to need Lia to give me another boost.

When I entered back into the bedroom and closed the door behind me, I didn’t bother to lock it. Grayson would just break it anyway, and his mood swings were driving me mad.

My chest did this weird flip-flop thing as I began scouring the donated clothes.

Okay, maybe I wouldn’t mind Grayson losing his shit and allowing the stick to drop out of his ass.

Within a few minutes, I was dressed in new underwear, dark-blue jeans, black boots, and a charcoal tee that fit a little snugger than I was used to.

I headed back to the bathroom, leaving the door open so I could listen for Lia returning, but by the time I was done braiding my hair, since I didn’t have a blow dryer, she still wasn’t back.

My eyes glanced toward the living room then the closed door I knew Grayson was behind. Feeling a little adventurous, I went in his direction, down the short hallway.

I tapped my knuckles on the door and let myself in, only to find him standing at the window with his head pressed against the fogging glass and no shirt on.

The black and grey tattoos that I’d noticed on his arms extended over his shoulder blades. There was a cross there, along with images of various flowers, skulls, and trees with a moon near his neck.

I took a step forward, not saying anything, and he didn’t move when I inched closer. The nearer I got, the more faint scars I could see on his back. My fingers twitched to reach up and soothe the bumpy lines.

When I was close enough to touch him, he finally spoke. “What are you doing in here, Kinsley?”

I swallowed thickly. “I don’t know.”

He turned on one heel, and my eyes were suddenly level with his sculpted chest.Fuck.I couldn’tnottouch him.

My hand raised and my fingers lightly trailed over his skin where it was puckered from past battles. “What happened to you?”

His thumb lifted my chin while the rest of his hand cupped my cheek. “Nothing you want to know about.”

“I wouldn’t have asked if I didn’t want the answer,” I countered breathily.
