Page 33 of Ignite Me

My wolf form shivered just remembering the way he’d held me before I’d shifted and how much I’d wanted him to claim me right then and there. I did my best to shove those thoughts aside when our run was over.

We’d stopped in the clearing we’d left from, and I was at a loss as to how to get back to two legs.

Grayson shifted first and walked toward me. As he did, I was reminded about the desire to challenge him that had come over me before.

My head rose higher, and I stared intently at him. Not because I was furious, but because I was stronger.

At least, that was the feeling my wolf was giving off.

Grayson’s eyes narrowed briefly. “The process of changing back is nearly the same as before. You need to envision your human form, remove all other distractions from your thoughts, and demand the energy to do as you command.”

That seemed easy enough.

I did as he said, but nothing happened. My wolf huffed, and I growled quietly. This was not like before.

The wolf magic I could sense along my skin before I’d shifted wasn’t there any longer. The crackling power had guided me the first time, and no matter how deep I searched for it again, I came up empty.

Grayson walked slowly toward me, holding his hand out, palm up. “May I?”

His question shocked me, but I managed to nod my wolf head.

My eyes watched his every movement, questioning his motives but also desperately wishing for his touch.

He kneeled before me, putting his eyes level with mine. Without realizing what I was doing, my head nudged against his and a rumble vibrated from deep within me.

“I’m not going to hurt you,” Grayson whispered. “Not again.”

Power and desire shot through me. The bond flared, and my wolf nearly panted right in front of him, knowing that nothing could ease the ache inside other than this man.

The man currently on his knees and bowing his head ever-so-slightly for us.

Seeing him submit to me triggered something feral inside me. I looked up at the moon, and a howl tore through me, echoing into the starry night.

As the sounds faded, the energy I’d been looking for reappeared. I latched tightly on to the shimmering power and pictured my human form. My long white hair, the clothes I’d been wearing before, and my bright eyes.

The world around me got fuzzy, and then I was back to regular height. This time, I was looking down on Grayson.

His chin slowly raised until our eyes locked. Neither of us said anything, but one look was all I needed to know that this man, and everything that he was… He was mine.

Whatever had happened when he’d found me made no difference. I needed him, and he needed me, even if he wouldn’t admit that with words.

I’d wear him down.

My years of being an outcast and doing my best not to let that solitary life crush me had prepared me for Grayson.

I would break him before he could break me. Or maybe we’d both shatter together.

He reached up and grabbed my hip. My skin rippled, and I suddenly realized I had no fucking clothes on.

With a glance, I confirmed I was naked as the day I’d been born. Grayson’s cognac eyes had those flames back within them as he slowly stood, keeping his gaze averted toward the ground.

With one hand, he pulled his shirt over his head and then carefully slid the cotton material over my head.

My chest was heaving, but I gathered my wits enough to push my own arms through the holes and tugged the material down as far as it would go.

Good thing Grayson was tall. At least my ass cheeks were covered. Mostly.

He finally looked up and met my eyes. “I forgot you’d lose your clothes. We’ll get you something like this to wear so that doesn’t happen.”
