“Hey, guys,” she said with a wide grin when she looked up at us. “Meet Markus. He’s my mate.”

Grayson’s chest expanded and growled. “Is that why you said we had to come here? So you could find your mate? Un-fucking-believable.”

Before I could say anything to defuse the situation, Markus settled Lia onto the chair they’d just been occupying and was moving toward Grayson. “Don’t fucking talk to her like that.”

“I’ll do whatever I—” Grayson snarled in return, but I stepped between them before punches could be thrown.

“How about we let Lia explain why she brought us here?” I suggested, feeling confident that she wouldn’t have been so selfish as to bring us to a warzone without a good reason that concerned us all.

When Markus finally looked down at me, I sucked in a breath. There was something about him…

His similar blue eyes. The curve of his nose. The straight, strong jawline. The only thing overtly different, besides the fact that he was a man, was that his hair was more of a dirty blond opposed to my nearly white strands.

All features I saw in myself every time I glanced in the mirror, but not only that. The energy I felt inside myself… I wasn’t the only one with it.

Lia was suddenly by my side. “You sense it, don’t you? I knew two things when I saw him driving down the street: He was mine and he was your family.”

“What the fuck does that mean?” Grayson growled.

Markus and I were still staring at each other, so Lia answered. “It means that Markus here is Kinsley’s half-brother. They share the same father andthatis why we’re here. Not because I knew I would find my mate.”

Holy fucking shit.

I didn’t know if I wanted to cry, scream, or run.

Out of all the things I’d learned over the last few days, this was… This was a lot. I had family. Someone who hadn’t been given away and hidden.

If he was here, why hadn’t I been? What was wrong withme?

I glanced at Grayson. “What were you going to tell me before? What do you think I am?”

My hands clenched at my sides as I waited for him to answer. I tried desperately to get my shit together, but I was losing at a fast pace.

“I was going to say I think you’re the previous Alpha Supreme’s daughter if you feel such a pull to this place and have the power that you do,” Grayson answered with a tightness in his voice. “And it appears as if I was right. Markus here was the last one’s eldest son.”

“‘Was’?” The word sent a fire down my throat while I turned back to Markus…my brother.

Fuck.

“He died a few months ago,” he answered with a tightness around his eyes. “If it helps, you probably had a better life than I did, and you didn’t miss anything by not knowing him.”

I needed a minute to process this. Hell, I needed hours or even days to wrap my head around all of this. My muscles began to ache from the tension rising within me, and I didn’t know who to turn to.

Grayson, the man who was supposed to be my mate.

Lia, the new friend I didn’t really know yet.

Markus, the half-brother I hadn’t known existed before two minutes ago.

All of this was nearly worse than my mate trying to kill me.

Chapter17

GRAYSON

Seeing Kinsley come so unraveled for the first time since knowing her made my insides burn with fury. Watching her walk back to the bedroom without saying a word and closing the door behind her, made me want to bury Markus, regardless of whether this was his fault or not. Him being here was what upset my mate.

Instead, I considered Kinsley—a new thing for me—and gave Lia my attention. “Tell me how this happened.”
