Grayson buried his face into the crook of my neck, breathing me in while I tightened my arms and legs around him, never wanting to let go.

“Mine,” he murmured against my slick skin. “All fucking mine.”

A smirk lifted on my lips. “Yes, you are.”

His teeth scraped over my shoulder before he propped himself back up. “Are you okay?”

I was sore as fuck between this and the fight, but “okay” didn’t even begin to describe the elation still running rampant through me.

I’d been alone and abandoned all my life.

Knowing Grayson was officially mine… It was indescribable.

“I want to stay in this bed with you for the next week,” I replied.

The tension returned to his eyes and jaw. “I wish I could say that was possible.”

I knew it wasn’t, but that didn’t mean we couldn’t hope for things that needed to wait.

Those hopes and wants would be what got us through whatever was coming next. I was sure of that, because all my life I’d waited for something better, hoping for something more.

If I could survive twenty-eight years of rejection by a coven I’d never belonged in, I could wait a little bit longer to be selfish with my newly claimed mate.

Just a little, though.

Chapter24

GRAYSON

Bonding with Kinsley hadn’t been how I’d seen our day going, but I was more than okay with the change in plans.

After seeing her hurt in the fight, I’d thought I’d explode, but I knew that wasn’t what Kinsley needed, so I’d used every ounce of my strength to keep my rage contained.

That had proved harder than it’d been in years, but the moment I’d had Kinsley alone, the fury storming within me had slowly begun to fade.

I’d have been content to just touch her as I’d done every day for the last week, but when she’d said she was ready, I wasn’t going to hesitate to claim her.

Her innate magic now hummed through me, thanks to our connection, and while that was going to take some getting used to, I had no regrets.

Well, one.

I couldn’t ravish her in bed for as long as I wanted and as long as she deserved.

We still needed to find out what it meant that Kinsley had killed a faction leader and figure out when we would be heading toward No Man’s Land since we hadn’t made it there the night before.

When I’d helped Kinsley to the shower and she’d moved in front of me, I’d nearly broken my own hand from clenching my fingers so tightly.

There was massive bruising where she’d been attacked, and I was glad I hadn’t seen it until now. Otherwise, we might not have gone as far as we had in that bed.

I brushed a light touch over the edges of the injury while she rinsed herself off. She shivered but didn’t wince, which I took to be a good sign. Her wolf healing was already taking care of the worst parts.

“What do you think is going to happen now?” she asked as she stepped out of the shower.

While she dried off, I stayed put and washed up while answering her. “The House is going to know that an heir to Mathis has returned. One who hasn’t been cast out. They’re also going to know that she isn’t to be fucked with.”

She peeked her head back around the curtain. “That doesn’t mean nobody will fuck with us.”

No, it didn’t. Fire and Fluorite was known for its brutality, but that didn’t mean they were all idiots like Ethan had been. I wasn’t even sure how he’d become a leader of a faction, given he hadn’t known when to walk away, but that didn’t matter now.
