What did matter was that his wolves would have already gone back to tell the others what had happened and we needed to know what was being said.

“We’ll go see Ryder,” I said as I turned off the water and reached for my towel on the hook.

Even if he didn’t tell us what I hoped, it didn’t make much of a difference. I just needed him to confirm what I already suspected: The third faction, led by Dylan, would be coming for us.

It would also be helpful if Ryder could fill in other details, but no matter what, once Kinsley was healed, there wasn’t a fight I didn’t think she could win.

Even if it enraged me to see her hurt, I’d known soon after meeting her that there was a superior wolf lying in wait inside her.

Soon, all of Fire and Fluorite would know that as well.

While being part of a House and stuck to one place wasn’t exactly what I’d had in mind for my future, I knew as I watched Kinsley get dressed again that I would do and be whatever she needed.

It might have taken me a few days to get there, but as soon as I’d quit being so fucking stubborn, everything else had clicked into place for me.

When we came out of the bedroom, Lia and Markus weren’t in the house, but they were hanging out in the front yard. Seemed like an odd place until I realized they would have heard us having sex.

Markus was staring intently at his boots while Lia was grinning like she was the one who’d just gotten laid.

She jumped out of her seat and wrapped Kinsley into a tight hug. “I’m not going to say anything, but just know… Great things are happening!”

Kinsley blushed. “Right.”

“No, seriously,” Lia continued. “I finally had another vision. I think I was blocked because I was hiding who I was, but shifting back there seemed to have reignited my powers.”

I hadn’t faulted Lia for keeping her lineage a secret, given I had been doing the same thing. Though, we’d had different reasons and mine weren’t something I had time to deal with at the moment. I’d use what abilities I needed to when the time came.

Kinsley hugged Lia again. “That’s great. What did you see?”

Lia glanced back at me, then Kinsley. “Nothing that needs to be shared.”

Markus groaned. “At least not ever again.”

Lia reached back and grazed the back of her hand over his arm. “I didn’t mean to tell you. I just got so excited.”

His palms rubbed over his eyes, then he stood, still avoiding looking at Kinsley. I could guess what Lia might have spat out from her vision.

“We need to talk to Ryder,” I said, deciding to help Markus out with a distraction. He’d fought to keep Kinsley safe, so I was going to attempt not to treat him as if he were nothing more than the unicorn’s mate.

He glanced up at me. “Let’s go, then.”

Markus left the yard, then seemed to think twice about walking away from Lia since he stopped and glanced back at her.

She skipped ahead to join him, and I wrapped an arm around Kinsley’s shoulders. She shivered, then looked up at me and whispered, “This is really fucking awkward.”

“Only for Markus, but he’ll get over it,” I said.

“Maybe Ryder can spare another place for us to stay in,” she suggested. It wasn’t a terrible idea, but while I didn’t mind staying with Ryder’s faction, I knew sticking together was better, given Lia’s talents.

She might have annoyed the fuck out of me, but I was finally accepting that the unicorn just might be willing to die for Kinsley and, until my mate was titled Alpha Supreme, she couldn’t have too many people watching her back.

I wasn’t too proud to admit that.

“Let’s focus on the factions and Johnathon first,” I said as we continued to walk down the sidewalk toward the park where we’d first arrived.

Someone had brought my jeep over to the house the day after we’d arrived, but driving the few blocks seemed pointless.

Ryder was just coming out of a building across the street, and his son Sammy was tugging on his hand until Kinsley caught his attention.
