The cracking sound gave me a boost of confidence and I went for his neck, but he must have seen the move coming and dropped his body before I could make a second contact.

Recovering, I went for his legs and locked my teeth onto his back leg, grinding the sharp points until I heard bones snap. Unfortunately, Dylan had the same plans as I did.

His bite cut into my right rear flank, tearing muscles I needed to fight at my best, but he at least hadn’t broken any bones yet.

I managed to swipe at him with another paw, scratching his eye and forcing him to release my leg.

Within minutes, we were both in poor shape, and I honestly had no clue how Ryder had beaten this asshole before.

He was twice as strong as Ethan had been, and I was already tiring while I limped, keeping pressure off my back right leg.

Thankfully, Dylan was doing the same.

I briefly paused my forward momentum, searching deep within myself and finding my connection to Grayson.

I didn’t dare look at him, but I pulled on the bond, knowing I needed to fight not only for this House and myself, but for my mate.

We needed each other, and I wouldn’t be the one to send him back to the darkness by losing this fight.

Not on my fucking watch.

With renewed determination, I charged for Dylan again. My pace was slower since I couldn’t put weight on my back paw, but that didn’t make my intentions any less ferocious.

Dylan was one of the few things that stood in the way of what I wanted.

That was going to end tonight.

He was ready for me when I plowed into him, but I still put him on his side. His teeth snapped at me, but I was careful to position my body away from him, so he missed.

I, however, didn’t.

While his wolf struggled to get back up, I didn’t waste the opportunity. My front left claws hooked under his chin, tearing through fur and skin until they hit bone. I then jerked his head back to the ground and moved in for the kill shot.

My canines tore into his neck, and not gently. Once I had a solid hold on Dylan, I paused instead of biting down and taking his life.

His wolf whimpered, and I breathed heavily, wondering if the faction leader was actually going to surrender.

Only I’d fallen for a move I’d done myself so many times before.

Dylan’s good back leg slammed into the side of my head, jarring me enough that I lost my advantage and rolled once away from him.

I was at least back on my feet and ready to go again before he was.

There was a new darkness in his eyes that confirmed what I should have already known. Dylan wasn’t going to back down. If I wanted this over, I was going to have to take his life. Just like I’d had to do with Ethan.

Fucking arrogant wolves.

Voices from the crowd chanted around us. “Kill! Kill! Kill!”

There was something seriously wrong with these people if death excited them this much. Unfortunately, I seemed to have no other choice.

I was going to give them what they wanted.

Dylan came for me next, but I was ready for him.

My eyes followed him as he tried jumping for me, but he must have thought his leg had healed more than it had, because instead of landing on me, his body dropped to the side and I took advantage of his mistake.

Without thinking about my actions, I bit into his neck again, and this time, there was no hesitation.
