“How do you know?” I narrow my eyes at him, hoping desperately that he’s right, but not sure if I have it in me to blindly trust him.

Zell cants his head to the side, questioning me with his green eyes. “I have never seen you act this way,” he says, shaking his head. “What has gotten into you?”

I couldn’t say, but I’m certain it has something to do with my—with the small, wild-haired female.

We watch for what seems like hours, while the dots don’t move. Then, kurving finally, the Mozaps and Kurrahstka make their way out of the room, leaving the females behind. A few moments later, a green dot enters the room, and the females follow it. I let out my breath in a huff when I see that they are going the opposite direction from the Mozaps.

“Let’s go,” Zell says, pushing himself up from his seat. He taps the handheld device, and a map appears on the screen. “Before the Mozaps return to their ship.”

We’re out of the cruiser and into the main building in record time. With the help of Zell’s handheld tech, we don’t have to worry about guessing which direction they are. It leads us right to them.

As we make our way down the hallway that intersects with the wing the females are in, Zell glances at his device and suddenly stops in place. “Vittu,” he hisses just as the sound of guttural voices up ahead makes my ears twitch.

“…we’ll take them both,” one of the Mozaps is saying. “The small one can be sold easily enough, but the dark beauty ismine.”

My vision turns to red, and if it isn’t for Zell grabbing my arm and pushing me up against the wall to keep me from charging the disgusting males…

“Calm the fuck down!” he hisses in my ear. “Seriously, Volethos. What iskurvingwrong with you?”

I can’t begin to explain.

I just know that my female is close, and these males are threatening her. Threatening to take her. From me!

“I’m calm,” I tell Zell, forcing my body to relax enough so he’ll let me go.

He narrows his eyes at me.

“I’m calm,” I repeat.

The moment his grip loosens, I push him away and round the corner, striding toward the group of Mozaps.

“Voleth—Fuck!”I hear Zell behind me, followed by the pounding of his footsteps as he gives chase.

CHAPTERSEVEN

Shae

Ifold my arms across my chest as I stare into the empty closet. “Well, shit,” I mutter.

So, those escape pods? Yeah, that’s not what they were.

“Whatisthis?” Danielle asks, sticking her head inside and looking around.

I shrug, trying not to let my disappointment get the better of me because, now what are we supposed to do?

“I think this is the universe telling us that we should head back and rethink this. We need a plan,” Danielle insists, settling a serious look on me. “Asolidplan. We’re not going anywhere if we get caught or killed.”

As much as I hate to admit it, she’s right. At least about coming up with a better plan.

Backtracking to our wing goes much faster, although I’m not sure how we’re going to get back into our room without a key, but that’s a problem for later. The closer we get to our room without running into any of the orc-aliens, the more we lower our guards. That is, until we turn a corner and nearly run straight into the three slug aliens from the strip club.

Feet scrambling on the smooth floor, it’s a miracle that none of them notice us. It’s pure luck that the slugs happen to be in the middle of an argument with two other males, neither of whom I recognize.

One is a golden color with shaggy dark-blond hair. The other… reminds me of an iguana. A really, reallytall, muscular iguana.

“What are we going to do now?” Danielle shout-whispers. Our backs are pressed to the wall just around the corner from the aliens.
