"Was she hot?"

"It was hard to tell. The human had a superbly fuckable body, but I can't comment on her face. I'm sure Fej enjoyed himself again, the lucky bastard."

I tense up as images of Fej towering over Stella devour my heart. If I find out he has taken my woman, or even thought about her naked, he'll receive life-threatening blows to his bumbling head.

"Fej's been in an extra randy mood lately."

"That's true. He's definitely using vultures to take more women than usual."

Vultures? What vultures?

"I heard he's preparing some grand event for the whole Planet to be proud of."

"Whatever it is, I'd better get an invite. I've been working my ass off for that son of a bitch."

Hearing Fej's guards speaking so highly of their ruler is so pleasing. Maybe a revolution can happen yet.

They drag me along the tunnel towards the opening, and I consider grabbing my chains and clashing their thick skulls together, but more Zebos guards are waiting at the end and I'd prefer to keep my strength for the next fight.

Stepping into the Gladiator ring, I look straight at Fej in his dictator box. Our eyes meet, and he smirks as if he has stolen something from me, apart from my freedom. He couldn't have taken Stella. He just couldn't. I would know.

I can't do anything about that right now, though. Once I've survived this next challenge, I'll worry about the whereabouts of my Stella.

"Fellow Zebos, welcome back our new champion, Champ."

A roar erupts in the stands, and the crazy Zebos go loopy. They clap and cheer as if I were a Planet Amazdom celebrity coming to shower my followers with half-priced discount vouchers to use at their favorite online retail store.

At least they're on my side, for now.

"Bring in the next battler," shouts Fej. "Never before seen in this ring, the one, the only, the mighty Ack."

The Ack?

Oh, Christ; even its name sounds like a deadly disease capable of poisoning my ass.

The metal gates crank open, and blood surges around my body, filling my muscles with adrenaline.

The Ack appears - a more vicious and formidable monster than I've witnessed before. My eyes lock onto the beast - an imposing figure with a giant bulbous head, massive claws and nails sharp enough to give me a short back and sides in seconds. Even the crowd have fallen silent, stunned by the size of this grotesque lump of destruction.

It shuffles into the ring, roars, and swings a ball adorned with metal studs around its head.

Perfect. This alien creature looks like it could rip me apart in a mere flick of the wrist.

"Fight," shouts Fej, and the Zebos roar.

I block out my fear and focus on the fight ahead. The Ack bundles closer, swinging the ball like a professional shot-put thrower.

My heart races with a mix of fear and apprehension. I won't give in, though. I must survive for Stella.

Since I don't have a weapon, I plan to stay one step ahead of the Ack and try to wear it down.

Easier said than done.

The Ack approaches, its foul stench almost making me gag. The swinging ball comes crashing toward me with incredible force, and I duck just in time, feeling the rush of air as it whizzes past my head.

I swing my fist around, attempting to land a blow to the Ack's ribs, but he dodges with surprising agility.

Each time he swings the metal ball, the sound reverberates through the arena, echoing the intensity of the fight. I dart to one side and pace away, but he chases after me, backing me into a corner. He towers over me and strikes. I jump, but the metal studs on the swinging ball catch my lower leg, knocking me to my feet. Ignoring the pain ripping through my legs, I roll on the floor as he crashes the ball down on the ground. The vibrations reverberate through my body, but the taste of determination and the image of Stella's sweet smile spur me on.
