Chapter one

Amanda

WarmsummernightsinWolf Creek are the thing I look most forward to, when the town is at it’s most empty, and it’s easy to steal away for a midnight run with my Omega. The planning we have to do now that the academy’s students are frequently using our favorite spots kind of strips the spontaneity out of our fun. We can’t just go for a walk that turns into something more or chase each other through the streets in our wolf forms until we’re out in the woods where we can be naked and alone in our human forms until day breaks.

Goddess, I miss those nights.

Spring is getting closer, but summer feels like it’s never going to come.

Now, our midnight runs include a drive, and regular check ins with our Alpha.

Ever since a trio of Dark Arts witches targeted me a few months back, Sean has been paranoid about any outings that don’t include our full pack of four. The only way Dante gets to keep me to himself on nights like these is if we make sure we follow a new set of rules.

Dante’s not overly fond of being told what to do.

Most Omegas prefer it, but he’s rougher around the edges, and I wouldn’t want him any other way.

He wanted to drive tonight, so I passed him my keys as we were leaving the apartment.

He insisted on a kiss before we got into the car, right under the streetlight where Parker would be sure to see us from the window he always stands at when we head out.

My lips still feel swollen from that kiss.

Somehow, I doubt we’ll be changing forms the second we get to the woods tonight.

“How many texts so far?” Dante asks, shooting me a wry smile.

It’s the first glance I’ve taken at my phone since we left, and it’s only been thirty minutes.

“Three,” I admit, “but they’re all part of the same comment.”

I can’t help smiling at Sean’s messages. He likes to add details after he says something, as if he’s making sure he’s explained himself properly. I get the feeling he didn’t use his cell much before.

It only came out of retirement to make sure he could stay in easy contact with us.

“I guess that’s not so bad,” Dante says, clearly not wanting to grumble about it.

“It’s nothing. He’s basically telling us to have a good time.”

And reminding us to spell for threats before we start running around in our animal forms, which is something that’s become second nature ever since it became a steadfast rule. I don’t need to tell Dante that Sean’s making sure we’re safe.

He knows how protective our Alpha is.

He doesn’t need a reminder.

I tell Sean we’ll remember, and I send him a second comment that’s just full of hearts.

He sends me a row of hearts that’s twice as long in reply.

It’s so cute, but Dante doesn’t need to know about that, either.

My mates have enough competitive brother energy as it is.

Sean manages to stay out of it, most of the time, and I’d like it to stay that way.

I don’t need my inbox filling up with emojis because they’re all trying to send me the most hearts.

Putting the phone back into my jacket pocket, I look out the window.
