Wolf Creek felt like home not long after I moved out here last summer to start at the academy. The surrounding woods outside of the town are like a second home now, too. Our wolves are getting comfortable with how much time we spend out here.

My phone vibrates in my pocket again, and Dante laughs.

“That’s more like it,” he says.

I take the phone out. “It’s Parker, this time.”

“Well, remind him this isn’t his night.”

I shake my head. Dante and Parker’s brotherly rivalry can get a little heated at times.

How much time they spend alone with me is the most contentious issue.

“He knows,” I tell Dante. “He wants me to meet him right after school tomorrow for our date.”

“We always have dinner as a pack,” Dante grumbles.

“It’s a one off,” I assure him.

“Hmm,” he mutters, not sounding happy.

Sean suspects we’ll all end up spending every night together as a group soon but given how protective Dante and Parker are of alone time with me, I’m not so sure.

“Please tell me you’re not going to sulk all night, when we could be having fun?” I ask him.

“We could have come out here earlier,” he says, starting to smile. “Maybe next time we should.”

“If you mean so we can practice spells while it’s light out, I’m game.”

If he means so we can get naked sooner, not so much.

These woods can feel private because it’s rare to run into anyone else out here, but rare isn’t the same as never. I’d much rather be scrambling around for clothes in the dark than trying to cover up in the afternoon sun.

“Yeah,” he says. “We could do that stuff before we go for our run.”

Clearly, he already has his mind set on it.

Parker has no idea what he’s just done.

I hope whatever he has planned for tomorrow night is worth this escalation.

I know if I need to, I’ll put my foot down. I’m still hoping their rivalry will settle down at some point.

Maybe I’m being overly optimistic.

We’ve been living together for nine whole months, and it hasn’t shown signs of slowing down so far.

I recognize our usual parking spot as Dante slows to a stop.

There’s no manmade path into the woods, but there’s kind of a natural one where we’ve been treading over the same ground for months. I’m a creature of habit, I guess it’s the wolf in me.

Dante gets out first, and darts around to open my door for me while I’m taking off my seatbelt.

I smile at him as I shrug off my denim jacket. “Thanks.”

I step out of the car, sneakers flattening the grass.

He pulls me into his arms and closes the door behind me in one smooth motion.
