Thebreakbetweenmorningclasses is too short and far away from Dante’s classes to warrant a visit, and apparently, it’s too short for Carter to make it to Rachel’s side for a make out session because he blurted something about his first class being boring and the teacher decided to detain him for the remark. I can imagine how much sulking he’s doing knowing he’s missing out on time with his mate.

Rachel shakes her head as we make our way to the vending machines in the main reception area.

“I don’t know how many times I’ve told him I can just meet him at lunch. He always wants to cram in five minutes wherever he can.”

I can tell by her smile that she loves how overly dramatic he can be.

“You wouldn’t want him any other way,” I tell her.

“I wouldn’t,” she agrees. “But it is nice to get some girl time, right?”

“Definitely.”

Carter’s nice enough, but he gets so carried away with her.

I wouldn’t like it if Dante was that handsy with me in public.

We definitely found exactly the right mates.

I bite down on my lip while I wait for her to grab a soda out of the machine.

“Ooh, they have the blue flavored stuff again,” she murmurs as she makes her selection.

The machines are free, like the snacks provided in our dorm rooms, and the cafeteria food.

She takes the can and taps the top before she opens it.

“Mmm, blue.”

I smile at her. She has a serious thing for that color. She usually has blue streaks in her blonde hair, the same royal blue color that Carter dies his hair. Since school started back, she’s alternated between a softer icy-blue all-over color and the streaks through blonde.

Right now, she has the soft color, and it suits her.

“Isn’t that just raspberry?” I ask.

After she takes another sip, she nods and shrugs. “Yeah, maybe. I don’t know. It just tastes good.”

I don’t really want to blurt out what happened last night, but I know if I don’t tell her now, I won’t get the chance to find out what she thinks. She’s one of the only people I could speak to about this who isn’t directly involved.

“Have you heard of the blessing?” I ask, trying to slide into it softly.

She frowns. “Is that one of those self-help books for witches?”

I press my lips together. Maybe I shouldn’t be talking about it.

Her eyes widen suddenly, and she touches my wrist, glancing around before she leans in.

“Wait! You’re talking about the blessing Artemis gives wolf shifters who are ready to …” She trails off when I nod. The stunned look on her face makes me wince. She lowers her voice to barely a whisper as she motions to me to follow her to an empty spot in the hallway. “I thought that was a fable. It’sreal?”

“Seems like it,” I tell her.

She grins at me. “Oh, my Goddess! You’re going to be a mom?”

I can feel my face flushing as I take in her words.Me, a mom?I never pictured it, before, because why would I? I was stuck in a wolf town for most of my life, treated like a pariah who was only accepted as a dirty secret for being a hybrid. No one was ever going to accept me as their mate.

Everything is different now, and it’s taken me a while to get used to the changes.
