“I … It took us by surprise,” I admit. “So, we didn’t … You know.”

“Oh,” she says, nodding slowly. “So, how do you feel about it?”

How do I feel? That’s the question, I guess.

“Honestly, I don’t know. I think I’m in shock.”

“It’s okay to take your time,” Rachel tells me. “It’s a big decision.”

“It really is,” I murmur.

“For what it’s worth, you’ll make a great mom.”

I smile at her, and she smiles back.

We have to get to our next class, but I feel a little better about the whole thing.

She blows out a breath as we get moving. “It’s not a fable. Wow.”

She sounds as stunned as I felt when it was happening.

We head into our next class, and she holds my hand under the desk.

I’m glad I told her. I don’t think I’m all the way ready to make a decision and I don’t know how my mates will take that.

Chapter sixteen

Parker

I’venevergottenthismuch done in a single morning.

Apparently having a sense of purpose is a good driving force for productivity. When it’s time to start making lunch, I’ve already cleared out the kitchen cupboards, cleaned the whole kitchen area, and taken out the trash.

Oh, yeah, and I’ve written down a bunch of things I want to learn or try making.

A first aid course is top of my list. I want to be prepared for anything.

I probably shouldn’t leave the list lying around before Amanda’s even spoken about the blessing though. I tear the piece of paper off the notepad and fold it up into my pocket.

Then, I start making grilled cheese with the bread Sean brought back from the deli earlier when he went out to grab us something for breakfast.

For a while grilled cheese was all I ever made for lunch, trying different cheeses and ways to make it, but it quickly became obvious what Amanda’s favorite kind was and I make it that way now twice a week. Trying out different things for lunch on the other days. It’s fun. The day moves along faster when I’m doing something I love.

Sean fell asleep on the couch after breakfast, but he wakes back up when the scent of lunch hits him, right before the door opens, and Dante walks into the apartment with our mate.

There’s a hint of tension in the air as Amanda moves over to the table, looking a little nervous.

Dante moves with her, and when she takes her usual seat, he steals my usual seat right next to her.

I catch his little smirk as he glances at me. He clearly has no idea that I’ve been letting him steal my seat every lunch hour for weeks now.

I always sit there at dinner. He sits there at lunch. Seems fair to me.

I start putting the grilled cheese sandwiches onto plates as Sean lets out a loud yawn from the couch.

Glancing over there, I catch Amanda jumping in her seat.

Clearly, our mate is apprehensive. The serious expression she’s wearing only intensifies when Sean takes his seat at her other side. She’s eyeing him carefully, as if she expects him to start a conversation she’s not ready to have.
