He gives me a pleased grin and takes my hand to lead me through the open gates, where Parker is waiting, dressed a little more like he used to, all in black, and standing next to Sean’s Mustang.

Clearly, he has big plans for tonight’s date.

Dante wraps his arms around me from behind.

“Have a nice night,” he murmurs, kissing my throat before he lets me go.

He’s gone when I turn around, so fast that I wonder if he teleported.

Shaking my head, I look back at Parker.

My Beta looks good in black. The shirt and pants are a little more dressed up than I expected.

Usually our dates are come as you are kind of deals.

I look down at my denim dress and wedge sandals and wonder if what I’m wearing is appropriate.

I wasn’t exactly thinking about what I was putting on when I grabbed my clothes this morning in a crazy rush. It’s probably too late to care. There must be some kind of time crunch involved if he’s picking me up straight from the academy.

“Hey,” Parker says as I approach.

“Hey,” I greet him. “Is there a reason Sean’s car is out here?”

He smiles, dangling the keys in his hand. “We’ve got it for the night.”

“For the night?” I ask, wondering where we’re taking it exactly.

He puts his other hand into his back pocket and pulls out an envelope.

“I know it’s a day early, but I thought we could celebrate alone today since you’re spending tomorrow night with Sean.”

I take the envelope when he hands it to me, knowing he’s talking about Valentine’s Day. It’s been a whole thing between them since they realized Sean would be spending time with me alone on the most romantic night of the year.

I expect a card, but inside the envelope are two tickets to a concert dated for tonight, for my favorite band. I let out a gasp as I look them over, not quite believing they’re real.

“Chaos Burning! How? Dante said they don’t …” I trail off when I see they aren’t playing in Wolf Creek. This is why he brought the car. He’s taking me out of town to see them!

“They don’t play smaller towns. Which means we have to go to the nearest city. That’s why Sean loaned me his car, and it’s why we need to get on the road now.” He gives me a wry smile.

A lump forms in my throat. He went to so much trouble for me.

“Thank you,” I murmur, as I step into his arms and hold him tight.

My vision goes blurry, but I fight the urge to start crying.

This is something great he’s done to make me feel good.

Crying is an insane reaction to that.

He strokes my back, asking quietly, “Are you okay?”

“Mm hm,” I murmur as I try to wrestle back control of my emotions.

He holds me silently for a long moment, while tears drip on his shirt.

I close my eyes and concentrate on my breathing so I can get past the crazy-heavy emotional overwhelm his thoughtful gift has given me.

A few long seconds later, I feel calm enough to step back and wipe the tears from the corners of my eyes. “Sorry, I don’t know what came over me. I’m happy, I swear.”
