These are my people, and I’d do anything for them.

Even Parker.

Chapter thirty

Sean

Dante’squietafterIoffer to get him a car, and I realize I might have hit a nerve. Our Omega was slow to agree to my mark. I know he was mistreated in the past, and it makes me angry to think about his old foster parents. If he hadn’t already dealt with them, I would have charged out to find them the moment I heard about what they put him and his sisters through.

He doesn’t trust easily for a reason. I was surprised when he moved in here right after taking my mark, and I’ve watched him become more relaxed around all of us, not just Amanda.

We’ve been making progress, but clearly that old wound still exists.

I don’t want to take the offer back, so I just act like he agreed to it.

He goes back to trying different spells on the book.

I go get my laptop from the repair shop office and while away the next few hours checking through local social media groups to see if anyone’s been reported missing in the area. It doesn’t look like there are any recent missing persons from Wolf Creek.

It’s entirely possible that the witch came from somewhere else.

I play a little solitaire while I watch the clock. It’s almost three a.m.

According to the last update from Amanda, they should be home pretty soon.

“Coffee?” I ask Dante, as I head over to the kitchen counter.

He looks up and shakes his head. “No, thanks. I’ll try and sleep once Amanda’s home. If I drink coffee now, I’ll be crashing by the time I need to go to class.”

“Water, or soda?” I try again, as I get the milk out for my own coffee.

“Uh, water would be good, thanks.”

I grab a bottle and put the coffee maker on before I move back to the table and set the bottle down next to Dante.

I’m usually more of a water drinker myself, but the occasional coffee can sometimes help when I’m stuck for ideas. This witch in the woods problem would be one of those times when I could use the boost.

I’ll probably be too warm after it.

Maybe Amanda will join me for a cold shower when she gets home.

The thought makes me smile. It’s our thing.

Dante has his midnight runs with her.

Parker has his teasing game.

I have my showers.

I make my coffee, and it helps wake me up.

Dante runs through more of his spells.

“Don’t you ever need to refill your magic?” I ask, knowing Amanda does, and fairly frequently, which has something to do with being a hybrid.

Dante’s a hybrid too, and I hardly ever hear him mention it.

He looks up and shakes his head. “Not often. I don’t know if it’s because I’m an Omega, or if I just have unusually deep reserves, but I don’t have to refill much. And these spells are hardly using any magic at all. They’re so basic.”
