The living room had seen traffic, but it was clean with dark hardwood floor, a massive stereo system. There were DVD of kids’ movies as well as action movies—I chuckled.

Not one rom-com in sight.

This was the house of a parent who adored his child—who considered her when setting up the place.

Peeling myself away from the thoughts of settling down my brain swam to, I wandered around the property just to check it out. I needed to get myself familiar with the place, see if there were places someone could hide.

After checking the perimeter, I went out and did a quick go over of the trucks—mine and Daniel’s.

When I found nothing, I went back inside and took the liberty of making coffee.

By then, Daniel entered the kitchen and smiled. For the first time, I took a good look at him. Everything from his stark blue eyes, sleek, muscular body and long brown hair that looked as if he hadn’t cut it in a while—all of it made me curious.

All of it made me curious as to how he’d feel pressed up against me.

“You were supposed to sleep in.” He told me.

“Military habit.” I admitted.

“You started the coffee.” He cheered.

“Yeah—grab a mug.” I told him, remembering how his hands felt sliding over my hip and the swell of where my ass started.

Last night, I secretly wanted him to move his hand down—just a little.

Licking my lips, I opened the fridge without asking.

“What does Kenny eat for breakfast?” I wanted to know.

“You don’t have to make her breakfast.” Daniel told me, tapping my shoulder and handing me a mug. “I don’t know how you like it.”

“It?” My cheeks flushed.

“Your coffee.” Daniel amended.

“Right.” I cleared my throat, accepting the warm mug. “Of course, you meant coffee. A little sugar.”

Daniel dumped a teaspoon of sugar into my mug, and I accepted the spoon to stir.

“The routine.” Daniel smiled. “I make the breakfast. Once it’s done, I wake Kenny. While she showers and dresses, I pack her lunch and by then she’s down and sitting at the island.”

“Sounds like you have it all planned.”

“I have to.” Daniel replied. “People keep telling me to hire a nanny. But I don’t want that for Kenny. I want her to remember me taking the time, me being a father, doing the things that matters.”

“I wish there were a lot more fathers like you.”

“Thanks.” He smiled handsomely at me. “Drink your fuel.”

I nodded and sipped. “Listen, Daniel, thanks for last night.”

“For what?”

“Pain management.” I smiled.

“You would have done the same for me, I think.” He told me. “Actually, probably not. You know my history with Hank, right?”

“Why do you call him Hank?” I wanted to know. “No one does.”
