“Apparently, in order to call him Montana, I’ve had to earn it.”

I nodded—Hank had a thing about friendships. To him, Daniel Archer wasn’t a friend.

To Montana, Daniel was a client.

I took a few more sips of my coffee and watched him. The truth was, after I’d gone over his file, I thought for sure he’d have servants doing everything for him. I didn’t expect him to wake up, make his daughter breakfast and prepare her for school.

That wasn’t something celebrities did.

Still, he moved around the kitchen with ease, as if this was something he did on a regular basis. There was something so overwhelmingly sexy about a man being a father.

After a while, he placed a plate with scrambled eggs and sausages in front of me.

“I’m going to wake Kenny.” Daniel told me and exited the room.

I took that moment to check my phone and realized I’d missed a few calls from Swede. Instead of texting him back, I called. I hated texting because my fingers were too large for the small keys. The amount of spelling mistakes I made irritated me because of constantly scrolling back to correct them.

“A car explosion?” Swede asked.

“Hey, they rammed us.” I frowned. “I didn’t call for them.”

Swede sighed. “Anyone hurt?”

“Just the badguys.” I replied. “I’m banged up a little from being tossed into the front of a truck, but I’m alive. Did you guys find anything from the scene?”

“Yeah.” Swede replied. “The plate on the truck was stolen. There was too much damage to get a vin number.”

“They stole the plates off someone else’s vehicle?”

“Yeah.” Swede was disappointed. “The vehicle might be stolen too—right now, we don’t know.”

“Damn.” I whispered.

“We couldn’t really get anything else from that.” Swede continued. “There were two people in the truck. I’m hoping once they get the autopsy done on what was left of the bodies, that I’ll be able to get more information. For now, you need to watch your six.”

“I know.”

“I’ve added you to the safe list for the kid’s school.” Swede informed me. “So now, you’ll be able to get her when you pick her up.”

“I need a favour.”

“Sure.” Swede replied.

“I need a list of all the people who had access to Kennedy.” I told Swede. “That’s the people on Daniel’s staff. Go through their lives. Pick everything apart.”

“I’m on it.”

By the time Daniel returned to make his daughter’s lunch, I was halfway through eating.

“I forgot I had to get you on the safe list for her school.” Daniel told me while setting a snack pack on the island. “My brain has been all over the place.”

“Don’t worry about that.” I assured him. “Already on it.”

“How did he do that, by the way.”

“Do you really want to know?” I smirked at him.

“I’m not sure if I should be impressed or scared.”
