Page 19 of Unleashing Kokou

Reluctantly, I left Angelo with a promise of us having a boy’s night soon and made my way into Livingston to meet up with Andy. A check of the time told me I was ahead of schedule, but I didn’t care.

I sat silently in Andy’s office, waiting for him to show up. There was enough time for me to stop at home but made no difference the location—I’d still be worried about things happening around me. On my way to Andy’s office, however, I stopped only to pick up a pack of gum and was at Andy’s office at about forty-five minutes before our meeting was supposed to happen.

His receptionist let me in, and after popping a stick of gum into my mouth, I exhaled and tried relaxing.

That was a bad idea.

The moment I relaxed, Kokou filled my head. I knew now that the skin of her ass was just as beautiful as the rest of her. I knew that her curves were a lot more dangerous as her perfect back sloped down into a narrow waist then arched upward into the most perfect ass I’d ever seen on a woman.

It wasn’t hard to imagine why I lost my breath as I remembered the way she’d arched up against my palms, how her body moved slowly as soft sounds escaped her throat.

In that moment, I may have been making love to her because that was how it sounded.

I knew her skin was soft and as perfect as any woman’s flesh could feel under my palms. As I rubbed the ointment into her skin, I was jealous of any man who’d gotten to see her like this.

I lounged backward in the chair and closed my eyes wondering if I could ever deserve a woman like Kokou. She’d walked into my house, head held high like a queen and the moment I’d laid eyes on her I knew she was a woman out of my league.

But she wasn’t there for me.

Even with that thought, I still couldn’t get over just how sexy she was—just how goods he smelled.

She was there to protect my daughter because I’d allowed people into my world who thought I was a machine, a soldier who as infallible and I was beginning to rethink my life’s decision.

The truth was I couldn’t play hockey forever. Soon or later my body wouldn’t come back from an injury or merely crapped out from all the previous bumps and bruises it suffered over the years.

Maybe this was my sign to bow out gracefully before I was forced to.

“You’re early?”

His voice pulled me from my thoughts, and I exhaled and leaned forward to rest my elbows on my thigh. “Have a seat.”

When Andy sat, I dragged a hand against the back of my neck.

“I’m giving everyone the same chance.” I began. “I need to know if there’s anything in your past that my vetting didn’t catch that you need to tell me about.”

“What’s this about?”

“It’s about what’s been happening around me, to my child.”

“You think I have something to do with this?” Any was incredulous.

“There’s no need to be dramatic.” I snapped. “This is nothing personal. They’re digging through everyone.”

“Even Angelo?”

I frowned. “Even Angelo. He didn’t have an issue with it. Why do you?”

Andy’s shoulders rose then fell heavily as he tilted his head from one side to the next.

“You’ve worked for me for years.” I pointed out. “I can’t imagine you have anything in your past that could come back and haunt either of us, so stop getting panties drawers in a twist.”

“I can’t help feeling like a suspect.”

I fought not to roll my eyes.

“Listen,” I said. “Let me completely honest with you. I love you, Andy. But that means nothing when my child is in danger. Now, if there’s anything you need to tell, do it now. If I find it later, you’re gone.”

“As in fired?”
