Page 26 of Unleashing Kokou

I shifted my body and pretended to be turning to press my back to the window. She hadn’t imagined things—the vehicle was there.

“Yeah.”

“It’s been our tail for a while now.”

“Why didn’t you tell me?”

Kokou sighed. “Because you’d just be preoccupied with it.”

Folding my arms across my chest, I leveled my eyes on her. “How long has it been behind us?”

“It followed us from the mall.” She told me. “Went with us to lunch and now it’s parked across the street.”

“Are you sure that’s the same vehicle?”

“Positive.” She left her perch and fell into one of the overly expensive chairs. “Who knew you were coming here today?”

“Bart, myself, you.”

“And you trust this guy?”

“As much as you can trust anyone, I guess.” I replied. “What do we do about the tail?”

“We let them think they still have the element of surprise.” She shrugged. “We have to lose them before we have to head home though. I’m assuming the penthouse is public knowledge that the media knows about.”

I nodded. “The house is under my legal name.”

“Daniel Archer isn’t your name?”

“Kind of.” I replied. “My legal name is Keaton Daniel Archer.”

An amused look lit up her face. “Wait, your name is Keaton?”

“Yeah. Why?”

She giggled.

Rolling my eyes, I walked over to sit across from her. Before I could speak again, members of my team started entering. My best friend and team captain Angelo would be missing this meeting because he was in Germany, helping to train a group of teens.

Besides, this meeting really didn’t have anything to do with hockey. It was about me and the loss and the issue of crazy fan coming for me.

In other words, it was a lynching.

The others stared openly at Kokou. A few of them were attracted, I could tell. One even tried hitting on her which angered me until, Kokou shifted closer to my side and rested a possessive hand on my thigh.

I knew she didn’t mean anything by it—it was only to get the others to back off. But I couldn’t help the pride that swelled inside me.

That quickly went away when the guy kept hitting on her as if he didn’t see what she’d done.

“The lady said no.” I growled. “You’re too close—back up.”

The disrespect.

He was my team-mate and didn’t care that this woman showed him she was mine. Even if it was only pretend, he didn’t know that.

Bart started the meeting.

In the end, we couldn’t come to on consensus. Someone even suggested I be traded since I broke under pressure.
