“She tried kidnapping a child and almost killed Kokou.” Percy reminded me. “The attempted murder alone will swing her a life sentence. She’s never getting out.”

Anna winced but I didn’t care.

“That’s if she gets convicted.”

“Even if she does get out.” Percy swallowed. “Kokou never ever stops.”

Being reminded of that made me smile.

“I want you to remember one thing, Anna.” I growled. “Percy didn’t save your life tonight. I didn’t either—Kokou did. And if you do get out—whether it be on a technicality or after you’ve served whatever slap on the wrist they give you—remember, that I gave you life and I will not hesitate to take it away.”

She swallowed. “I don’t care. I killed Satan.”

I smirked. “Oh, and by the way, Kokou is going to be fine. When she’s nice and healed, I’ll have her visit you in prison. We’ll bring you a cake.”

I braced a palm to her chest and shoved her backward toward Percy who immediately cuffed her. I put the gun away.

“No!” Anna screamed. “Why won’t she just die?”

“Shut the hell up!” Percy frowned. “You have the right to remainsilent.I suggest you exercise that right.”

I glanced over at Kokou then back at Percy.

“You’ll have someone watch her, huh?” I demanded.

“She attacked him.” Percy tried getting Anna to stand.

She refused.

“Get up. Don’t get up.” Percy growled at her. “I don’t care. I’ll drag your ass out of here. You almost killed a cop tonight. But most importantly, you tried killing a protector. No matter how this plays out, you’re mine now. And by the time I’m through with you, you’re going to wish Daniel had shot you.”

I gave Percy a nod and true to his word, he dragged Anna, kicking and screaming from the room.

CHAPTER14

Abeke “Kokou” Bolande

“Dad! She squeezed my hand!”

I groaned.

“Kokou?”

Blinking, I fought to open my eyes. The first time, the glare hurt.

The second, everything was blurry.

But I could feel warm hands against my cheeks and a small weight against my right side.

Filling my lungs with air, I held it then slowly pushed it out my mouth before attempting to see again. This time when I looked up, it was into the most beautiful pair of blue eyes times two. Smiling, I tried sitting up.

“Don’t.” Daniel told me. “You’re still at the hospital.”

“What did the doctor say?” I asked.

“You’ll outlive us all.” He told me around a kiss. “But you’ve been in and out for the last day or so. How are you feeling?”

My first instinct was to tell him I felt as if I’d been shot. But Kenny’s worried eyes stopped me. Gritting my teeth, I lifted my arm to her, and she fell heavily against my chest to cuddle into me. The sudden weight caused my wound to throb, but I didn’t mind.
