But while I exited the line of cars, I didn’t leave.

Instead, I found one of the teachers’ spots at the front of the school and parked there.

I had to move my car a couple of times, but it was right before lunch-time when a man with a baseball cap pulled low over his eyes scurried from a across the street and into the school.

Quickly, I scrambled from the car and darted in through the side-door closest to me.

While I was familiar with the layout because I’d been studying the plans at nights, this person wasn’t and I could tell by the way he looked around. I hurried down the hall, dipping behind columns or into empty rooms each time he looked behind him.

He was trying to find someone—if he was a parent, he would’ve gone to the office. Instead, he was checking classroom after classroom.

On the second floor, my phone buzzed against my thigh, and I pulled it out to see it was the phone I’d given Dillon.

I answered.

“There was a man looking into my classroom.” He told me.

“Is Eli with you?”

“Yes.”

“Okay, pack your bag, and move beside Eli.” I looked up at the clock mounted on the wall over some lockers. “The bell is about to ring. When all the other students exit your room, stay behind with Eli. I’m coming to get you.”

“Okay.”

He sounded terrified.

After hanging up, I was about to make my move when two other men caught my attention.

The bell rang.

“Shit.” I swore.

Blending in with the students, I snug up behind the first man and pulled him backward into an empty room. Since he was bigger than I was, I had to brace myself for whatever he threw my way.

A punch connected with my left ribs, sending me across the room. I grabbed hold of a desk to stop my skid, but that barely helped.

As he came for me again, I picked up a nearby chair and swung.

It cracked off the side of his head, dazing him.

I swung again and this time knocked him out cold before I dropped the chair.

Giving him one last look, I darted back into the hall just as the men found Dillon and Eli. Eli was using his body to shield Dillon when I entered the room.

“Wasp!” Eli shouted.

That caused both men to turn toward me.

Eli used his body to push Dillon into a slight opening in the wall.

Both men rushed at me and while I was armed, using a firearm inside a school was never something I wanted to do.

Stepping back, I gripped the handle of a drawer closest to me, yanked it out and used it as a shield for the punch that came at my head.

Lashing out, I kicked underneath it to get my attacker in the knee and when his knees buckled, I swung the drawer. It connected with the man’s head and he slumped to the floor.

I didn’t have time to gather myself as I was kicked in the chest. I gripped the door to keep my from sailing into the hall, used the momentum to leap in the air to send both my legs back into the man’s chest.
