“Carter.”

She was breathy.

“I see my son is now obsessed with you.”

“What’s not to be obsessed about?” Seema asked. “I’m adorable.”

I laughed just as Charlie stuck his head into my office. Waving for him to enter, I walked over to the view and exhaled.

“You two be safe, okay?” I offered. “Are you craving anything tonight?”

Seema paused and cleared her throat.

“Food, Goddess.” I teased. “What do you want to eat?”

“Aww, come on!” She whined. “Give a girl a break.”

“You okay, Wasp?” Dillon asked from somewhere in the room.

“I’m okay.” She replied. “Just bring food.”

“You have to be speci—”

She hung up.

I laughed and shook my head.

Turning, I paused as I noticed Charlie was watching me with an amused look on his face. Though I tried ignoring it to start the meeting we were scheduled for, he wouldn’t stop staring and smirking at me.

“What?” I sighed.

“I’ve never seen you like this.” He teased. “Even with Audrey.”

“Like what?”

“That smile on your face.” Charlie nodded. “It looks good. Is it because of yourGoddess?”

I hung my head.

Sure, I could go into the whole conversation of denying she was mine. But why waste that time? Charlie could read me like a book ever since were children and I was too tired to go through that whole thing.

“I don’t know what it is about her.” I admitted. “I’ve stayed awake trying to figure out why I feel this intense pull to her.”

“She saved your life, man.” Charlie set his tablet on my desk. “That’s a powerful thing.”

I shook my head.

Moving around my desk, I turned the chair beside him so I could sit and face him. Glancing over my shoulder to make sure the door was closed, I leaned in.

“Even with Audrey, there was always this little hint if mistrust I had for her.” I cleared my throat, feeling like an asshole. “But I thought, that was normal. You never one hundred percent trust a lover, right? I mean, there is always going to be something you don’t know about them. But with Seema? It’s overwhelming.”

“It scares you, doesn’t it?”

“Yes.”

“Good.” Charlie nodded.

“I don’t—I-I don’t—”
