“Aww, dad!” His cheeks flushed. “He hasn’t even asked me out yet. We aren’t even close to being ready for—well—aww dad!”

I shook my head.

“You’re embarrassed.” I shrugged. “It’s fine. I want to give you the tools you’ll need. And oh, same rules apply to you dating a boy as if you were dating a girl. Be polite and respectful. No means no. If you’re unsure, ask questions. Follow the rules about curfew and budget—”

“I know.”

I eased back to where I’d been sitting.

More silence.

“So, what are you going to do about mom?”

“I don’t know.” I replied. “But I tell you something—I don’t have to make that decision tonight.”

Silence.

More silence.

“Well, if you’re not making that decision tonight, how about another one?” Dillon asked. “It should be easier.”

“I have another?” I looked at him. “Do tell.”

Dillon stood and walked over to the window that overlooked the pool and the guesthouse.

“There’s a really pretty, ex-army woman sitting on the front steps of your guesthouse.” He pointed. “She seems really nervous and I’m sure she isn’t just sitting there for her health.”

“Um—” I quirked a brow. “What?”

He pointed out the window. “There. Maybe you can—um—go tell her—um—goodnight.”

“Dillon?”

He looked at me, innocently.

“What?”

“What do you know?” I asked.

Dillon laughed softly. “I’m not a kid, dad. I may beyourkid but I’m not a kid. I know you don’t kiss someone who work for you the way you kiss Wasp.”

Hanging my head, I wanted to cry.

“It’s not as big a secret as you and her think it is.” Dillon threw my own words back at me.

“What do you think?” I asked. “About me and Wasp?”

“Dad, you call her Goddess.” Dillon pointed out. “You look at her like I look at cheesecake. I’m not sure if you think I’m just that naïve or what.”

I laughed out loud.

“Cheesecake?” I asked.

“When have I ever turned down cheesecake?” Dillon cocked his head to the side, staring at me. “Like—ever?”

He had a point. When he was younger, if I allowed it, he’d eat just the dessert—forever.

“That’s the best way I knew of to explain it.” Dillon pouted.
