Automatic lights switched on illuminating an A-Frame house built over a garage. Mamba hit the remote Cobra gave him, the doors opened, and he pulled into the garage.

“This is way more than a cabin.” Mandy wrestled with the seatbelt then squeezed out of the SUV. “The garage alone is amazing. I guess Cobra has a thing for organization.”

Waist-high tool chests lined one wall, motorcycle parts hung from another wall, and the garage floor was coated with a special laminate. “This garage is cleaner than most people’s homes.”

“Yup, my prez has a thing for neatness. We razz him all the time about being OCD.”

“I can see why.”

Mamba guided her to the stairs leading to the first floor over the garage, and again lights automatically flashed on. They illuminated an open floor plan with a wall of windows reflecting their image against the dark night.

A huge flat screen TV hung on one wall surrounded by a U-shaped couch. To the right was a pristine kitchen in grey and white granite countertops and stainless steel appliances.

“Are you sure Cobra isn’t an executive of a big company, because this is nothing like what I would expect a biker’s mountain cabin to look like.”

“You should see where he lives over at the Vegas Towers. My prez believes in breaking stereotypes.”

Mamba hit the outside lights, unlocked the sliding glass doors and they stepped out onto a wraparound deck. The smell of pine trees surrounded them.

“I love that smell.” Mandy inhaled deeply. “I miss it in Vegas.”

“And look at the sky. Sure don’t see all those stars with all the bright lights from the Strip.”

She leaned into him. “I think this weekend is going to be perfect.”

“It already is.” He kissed the top of her head. “Let me unpack the truck, and then we can get settled in.”

“I know we already ate, but I’m hungry again.” She laughed around her words. “Lately, I’m hungry all the time.”

“Gotta keep up your strength. I’ll bring in the food first.”

“While you do that, I’m going to explore upstairs.” The open staircase gave way to a huge loft area with what looked like two bedrooms and a small sitting area.

She found what she assumed was the master bedroom and like the rest of the house it was perfectly in order. Cobra must’ve had a cleaning service because Mamba said he hadn’t been up here in weeks. The bedroom led to an en suite bathroom with a jacuzzi tub and a huge stall shower with a temperature control and all kinds of body sprays and jets similar to the one they had at home.

Mandy examined her shape, namely her belly in the full-length mirror. In the last two weeks she’d gotten even bigger. She wondered how big she would get because her balance and her center of gravity was way off. The other day she bent down to pick up her shoes and she almost fell headfirst into the closet.

She smoothed her t-shirt over the bump and couldn’t help wondering what their baby would look like. Would she be petite with her dark hair and tawny skin, or would she have Mamba’s athletic build and height. They had so much to look forward to, so much to be grateful. She had a life she’d never dreamed possible with a man she loved and a baby on the way. Nothing could stop them; nothing could stand in their way.

Later that night, after Mamba checked and locked all the doors he set the alarm system. Like most of the Serpents security was a priority. Life taught him to be cautious instead of sorry.

When he pushed through the bedroom door Mandy was already tucked into bed. “I thought you wanted something to eat?”

“So did I. Another strange thing about pregnancy, one minute I’m starving and the next I’m not, but at least I don’t feel nauseous anymore.”

Mamba slid in next to her still in his clothes. “You look tired. You feel all right?”

“I feel fine, you have to stop worrying about me every second. I’m not as fragile as you seem to think.”

“Babe, you’re the toughest person I know. Standing up to your gangbanger brother last year, starting your own business while being pregnant. Amazing. But I still get to worry about you.”

“I know, it’s what you do.”

“Yup, and you better get used to it.” He cupped her cheek and pulled her in for a kiss.”

“I want you to know how happy I am,” she mumbled against his lips. “How happy you’ve made me.”
