Noah and Londen locked eyes, chuckling under their breath.

“What you doin’ in here?” Noah asked, checking the time on the computer.

“Royalty,” was all Londen asked.

“Not lil shorty with the braids?” Tussi confirmed. “I’m talking to her too.”

It took Londen a few seconds to process Tussi’s words. It wasn’t lost on him that Lei would have been talking to other men but hearing that she was talking to Tussi had him thinking differently of her. Maybe they were fresh enough in their conversation to where Lei hadn’t been able to realize how much of a fraud Tussi was. The illusory state he lived in could manipulate those that didn’t have the ability to see a person’s true core, and Londen hoped that wasn’t the case with Lei.

“Fuck you telling me that for?” Londen asked.

Tussi’s hands lifted in surrender. “I’m just making conversation, big brotha.” The right side of his mouth lifted into a smirk. “Wanted to see if we are talking to the same female.”

“Nah.” Londen chuckled, squeezing the bridge of his nose. “Trust me, we’re not.”

Londen was convinced—Tussi may have been talking to Royalty, but he was going to get Lei.

“What’s up with you and One?” Londen asked Noah, referring to Mercedes.

Noah wasn’t as secure and detached as Londen. He was far more possessive. If anyone suggested they were talking to Mercedes, he’d break their fingers to ensure they couldn’t do it anymore.

“Man…” Noah’s head shook as he sat back in his seat. “I like her. She’s unique. Feisty and fiery, but soft and sweet.”

“You gon’ let her come see you?”

“I’on know about that. If there’s a chance for me to get out soon, I’d rather the first time she see me be as a free man, you feel me?”

Londen understood completely. He was on the same wave with Lei. His parole hearing was coming up, and even though the prosecutor made it seem as if his release would be guaranteed at the ten-year mark, Londen wouldn’t place any bets on his freedom until he actually had it.

“I feel you. Them two weeks can’t fly by fast enough for me.”

Their conversation fizzled out, allowing Londen to shift his attention to his portal. He quickly replied to the messages he had, saving Yandi and Lei for last. Yandi was beautiful, that Londen couldn’t deny. There was something about her that told him to stay away. Even if he wasn’t invested in getting to know Lei, he didn’t see himself talking to Yandi consistently. From the conversations they’d had so far, she seemed more concerned about who he was, who he was attached to, and the power and status they had more than anything else.

Seeing that Lei was currently online, Londen’s eyes shifted toward Tussi.

Londen: Whoever you talking to, tell them you have to go.

Lei’s dots popped up for seconds on end, but all she said was…

Royalty: Okay. Hold on.

Londen watched as Tussi’s face covered with confusion as he read Lei’s message. Sucking his teeth, he nodded and rubbed his palms together, and Londen could barely contain his amusement. Clearing his throat to hide his chuckle, Londen returned his attention to the computer screen.

Londen: Thank you for proving you can be a good girl.

Royalty: What’s my reward for letting you have me all to yourself?

Londen: Send me a physical address so I can send you something. You don’t have to trust me enough to send me yours.

Royalty: 40110 Sanders Lane

Unable to resist, Londen pulled up a new window and searched the address. He could tell by its appearance that it wasn’t her home, but he appreciated the fact that she sent something for him to work with.

Londen: Give me a couple of minutes to set this up.

Royalty: Okay… but can I have a hint about what it is?

Londen: No.
