With a bob of her head, Lei stepped into her home after he opened the door. A gasp escaped her at the sight before her. An aisle had been created out of tea light candles and rose petals. They led the way to the living room, where Londen had a hibachi chef and her favorite sushi rolls already waiting.

“Ah! This is perfect!” she yelled happily, not even bothering to see what else he had.

“There’s more.”

“Really?”

“Yeah. Let’s go out back.”

As they walked out, Londen’s heart raced. Up until now, making this choice was so natural he felt calm. The weight of the situation had settled within his heart. Though he was confident Lei would accept his marriage proposal, he was still nervous about doing it. Saying she wanted to spend her life with him was one thing, but agreeing to it was something else. Now that he knew for sure that she was pregnant, there was nothing stopping Londen from taking that next step.

Outside, a professional photographer waited to capture the moment.

Lei bounced up and down at the sight of the custom rose gold Lamborghini Aventador he had waiting for her. He’d started the process of getting the car for her months ago, and it just so happened to be ready right before they left for Memphis.

“Sheesh,” Lei mumbled, walking around the car. “This is…sofreaking beautiful, Londen. Is it really mine?”

“All yours. The keys are on that tray.”

Lei’s head turned to the left, focusing on the tray that held not only the keys to the car but her engagement ring and a love letter as well. The ring was something he’d gotten her mother’s help with. Though Londen believed he had a good enough idea of her style, he wanted to make sure both her engagement and wedding rings were all she had ever dreamed of. With Cashmere’s guidance, he’d purchased a ten carat, emerald-cut diamond that was just as elegant and classy as her everyday style.

Her hands shook as they lifted. Lei took small steps back as her body quaked. Covering her mouth, she began to cry. After giving her a few seconds to process the full weight of this moment, Londen walked over to her. Even with the flashing of the photographer’s camera, all Londen could focus on was Lei.

Taking her hand into his, Londen got down on one knee. “This was in the works before we found out you were pregnant, but now that we know, I wanted to do this sooner. I want you to be my wife before you become the mother of my child.”

Lei wiped a few tears, and just as quickly, more flowed.

“From the moment I saw your picture, Lei, your soul was connected to mine. I didn’t know what it was about you I was so drawn to, but I was determined to find out. Even with a simple Hi, you spoke to my heart in a way that no other woman has. I’ve been falling in love with you, more and more, with each day that passes by. It would be my highest honor to have you as my wife.”

Londen grabbed the ring. “Lei Armani Fifer, will you marry me?”

Nodding adamantly, Lei’s body swayed slightly as she laughed. “Yes, Londen. Yes!”

She did a little jig as he put the ring on her finger that made Londen laugh. He licked his lips as he stood, not wasting any time pulling her into his arms. Londen’s kiss was tender, his embrace sure. Lei trembled in his arms, as if the sheer need of his kisses overwhelmed her senses.

“Babe… really?” Before he could answer, Lei was kissing him again. “You’ve made this the best year of my life, and it’s not even over yet.”

“There’s so much more to come, I hope you know that.”

“I want to read my letter now.”

Londen laughed as she removed his arms from around her waist to turn and retrieve the letter.

“We’re in the middle of my romantic proposal and you want to read a damn letter?”

“Absolutely.” She eyed him as if she couldn’t believe what he’d just said. “Not only do I love your words, but ten years ago, I ran away from Memphis filled with nothing but hurt and anger. I was to the point of suicide. It felt like every time I found the courage to live, someone I loved stabbed me in the heart. I never thought ten years later that love letters from Memphis would be the final thing God used to heal me. You’ve not only restored my faith in humanity, but you’ve rekindled my desire for love and marriage and babies and a happily ever after. So yes, I love the material things and what this ring symbolizes for us, but your love letters will always reach me in a way that nothing else ever could.”

Londen was so taken aback by her words that he couldn’t immediately respond. Lei hadn’t said them for a response; she said them because they were her truth. She’d started to open the letter and read it when he finally found his voice again.

“I’m happy to provide that for you, and I’m going to spend the rest of our lives making sure you know just how worthy you are of true love.”

“And I promise to do the same for you. I love you, Londen Graham, more than I ever thought was possible.”

After making love to her lips, Londen left her with the letter so she could savor it. He went back inside to make sure the chef was ready to prepare their meal and checked his phone notifications in the process. He had it on Do Not Disturb, but someone had called back-to-back so their calls would go through. At the sight of Mercedes’ number, Londen frowned. They didn’t have the type of personal relationship where she’d be calling him just because. Something was wrong.

Quickly dialing her number, Londen made his way out of the living room so he could have some privacy.

“Londen!” Mercedes yelled as soon as she answered.
