CHAPTER TEN

HUNTER

She jumps back from me like my dick is a bomb ready to explode. Jade might not be wrong about that.

“Is this where we are going?”

I nod, and she spins around, walking with anger pouring from her, toward the door of the restaurant. I swear she has a trail of fire behind her. Fuck, it’s hot. I want her to douse me in her fire. I want to fucking burn in it.

Jade goes through the open door, walks through, and shuts the door in my face.

I growl, open the door, and go after her.

She spins around facing me, “I’m going to the bar, warden.”

Then she turns back around and walks to the bar.

As much as I want to slam her against the wall and shut her up, I decide to give her a little space to see what she does with an ounce of freedom. No one will even consider helping her if she asks. I own this establishment, and no one here would toy with the idea of crossing me. They know exactly who I am. However, the man she’s sitting beside at the bar is not someone I know. The manager approaches me, “Sir, the room you requested is ready.”

I nod without taking my eyes off my girl, “Thank you. We’ll be in there shortly.”

Every muscle in my jaw clenches when I watch her smiling and fluttering her fucking lashes at him as they engage in conversation. She giggles the way women do when they’re trying to hook a man. Then he brushes her hair out of her face, and I’ve officially lost every ounce of patience I had. I storm over to them, “I suggest you keep your fucking hands off my girl.”

He laughs loudly, “I think your girl likes it when I touch her.”

Clearly, this asshole does not know what restaurant he stumbled into.

His eyes continue to drink her body in, “What do you think baby? Want to get out of here?”

Jade fucking nods, “Yeah, let's go.”

“Wrong fucking thing to say, baby girl.”

I grab my blade from my waist with my right hand, while I slam him down on the bar with my left hand, smashing his head, I slice his throat. Jade screams frantically. Maybe she’ll take me more seriously now. I grab a towel from the bar, wipe my knife clean, and put it away.

“Call a cleaner,” I say calmly to the manager. “Until it’s taken care of, close the restaurant to anyone other than us.”

I take Jade by the arm and walk her into the VIP room, where we’ll have dinner.

“You killed him because he was talking to me,” she says with a gasp.

“Oh, my Sassy girl, I killed him for talking to you. For touching you. For not listening when I told him not to. And finally because you agreed to leave with him.”

I pull out the chair for her, she lowers herself to the seat, and I scoot her in. When I take the seat across from her, she shakes her head, “You’re not the boy I fell in love with, Hunter. It breaks my heart that this is who you’ve become.”

Trying to protect myself from her words, I erect the wall I’ve built through the years. The one that refuses to let anyone penetrate it. I cannot let her see an ounce of weakness. The woman she was when I first brought her to my home is long gone. Moments ago, I thought it was impossible for her to hate me. Now I’m not so sure. Regardless, I won’t be another man for her. When she falls in love with me, it’ll be the real me, the villain. There are consequences for every action. She and the mystery man made choices that resulted in his life ending.

“Please don’t be surprised when you're punished later. Because you will be.”

She glances around the room, taking in the fireplace, then her gaze lands on the table covered in a white tablecloth with red rose petals scattered.

“So, you wanted to be romantic and now you’re going to beat me?”

I sigh audibly. She’s really pushing my buttons tonight. “Baby girl, I will not beat you. I’ve told you that already.”

Jade places her hands on the table. She’s suddenly very anxious. The anxiety is pouring out of her. “Then what will my punishment be?”

I clench my jaw, “I don’t know yet. There will be one, but it won’t be physical pain. I can guarantee you that.”
