I nod, knowing he’s right even though I fucking hate it, “As you know her father is tied up. He needs to be dealt with, but I can’t leave her right now.”

He smiles viciously, “I’ll have Mia and Trevor take care of it. I assume you want him dead?”

I roll my eyes, “Fuck yes. Tortured. Then killed.”

Glancing toward the bedroom quickly, he turns back to me, “Does she know?”

Picking up my drink, I swallow a gulp before resting it back on my knee, “No.”

He chuckles, “Willow was pretty pissed when she found out I killed her father.”

I remember hearing something about that. I wasn’t there though, so I didn’t see it unfold.

“Did you ever regret it?”

Shaking his head, he says, “Not for a fucking minute. He hurt her. He let others hurt her. There was no scenario in which I could let him live. The minute I found out; he was a dead man walking. Willow accepted it and so will Jade.”

He’s right. Even if she’s pissed, she’ll get over it. Jade is different from Willow. She might not even be upset. After what he did to her it wouldn’t surprise me if she welcomes it. My beautiful girl has a darkness to her I never expected.

“We’re going to get Joey as well.”

I am not exactly upset about this information, but Mia has been after him for years with no luck.

“How?”

Max grins, “We’re going to take them out from the ground up. I’ve got Mac working on it. I’ll let you know when I have more.”

I nod and he continues, “He has women in a storage facility. I don’t know if it’s all the women he has. We’re assembling a team to retrieve the victims.”

“Where’s the facility?”

He chuckles, “Scranton, Pennsylvania.”

“What the fuck is in Scranton, Pennsylvania?”

Laughing again, he says, “I assume he’s trying to stay undetected.”

“You know, Mia dreams of ending human trafficking. It’s never going to end. Every time we cut off the head of a snake another grows back in its place.”

He nods, “I’m afraid you’re right. She wants to finish her work before she starts a family. My little sister wants to bring children into a different world than the one that exists. If she waits for the end of trafficking, she’ll never be a mother.”

I rise out of my chair, “I’ll be right back. I need to check on, Sassy.”

When I walk into the bedroom, I find her sleeping like an angel, with her hand on her belly, and her red hair spread around her pillow. Fucking gorgeous. I swear every time I look at her, she takes my breath away. Quietly, I close the door and return to Max.

“Why do you call her Sassy if her name is Jade?” Max asks when I sit back down on the couch.

I laugh at the memory, “She was a fucking firecracker from the moment I met her. Jade has always been a wild force of nature. Like a hurricane and a tornado fighting for dominance.”

I get lost in the memories and continue, “Three days after I met her some boys were pulling her hair and harassing her on the playground. I thought I was being heroic when I made them leave her alone. She was so pissed at me. The way she fucking glared at me and screamed that she didn’t need a hero, that she could take care of herself, mesmerized me. She was feisty as hell, and always had a sharp tongue. That was the day I started calling her Sassy girl.”

Max sighs, “I’m glad we walked into that basement.”

“Me too,” I say, “The thought of what could’ve ended up happening is sobering. I try not to think about it.”
