I looked at her chest in the nipple jewelry and goddamn if I wasn’t getting hard in the middle of this disaster. I had no control over it; she looked so beautiful. “You look like a fantasy come true. They only caught a glimpse. They’re probably thinking that I’m lucky as fuck.”

She tugged at the chains. “Help me get this off.”

“As long as you wear it later. I didn’t really get a good chance to admire it.” I gently pulled at the adjustable cinch to loosen the nipple rings.

She shifted from foot to foot. “Oh, damn. That feels good.”

My cock twitched. “Fuck,” I muttered as I felt a throb of pure need pulse in my groin.

We got the necklace off and then we both finished getting dressed.

Lacey looked up at me. “Do I really have to go down there?”

“No,” I answered. “I’ll kick them both out if you want.”

She sighed. “Let’s get it over with.”

Kaylie and Sid were sitting at the kitchen island when we went back downstairs. I popped Lacey’s coffee mug into the microwave oven to warm it up and then gave it to her. I figured she could use it.

“So?” Kaylie slapped her hand on the marble counter.

“So, what?” I asked.

She threw up her hands in disgust. “I can’t believe this, Bash. Lacey is my best friend.”

I choked back my anger. “You’ve got a lot of nerve throwing the best friend thing around. Look who you’re married to.”

Sid put his hand on Kaylie’s arm, trying to calm her down, and Lacey just stood back, watching the scene unfold.

“I guess that’s fair,” Kaylie admitted. Her eyes were blazing. “But I don’t really care about you. I care about her. She doesn’t deserve to be used and thrown away by you. She’s a really great person.”

“Fuck! I know she’s a great person. I’m—“ I was going to say married to her, but I caught myself at the last second. ”—dating her.”

Sid looked startled by the revelation. Kaylie gasped.

But, Lacey, she tore my heart out. “We’re hardly dating. We’re just fucking.” She said it so calmly, authoritatively.

It hurt. Worse than a punch to the gut. It felt like an invisible hand squeezed my heart so hard that I wasn’t sure I’d be able to take another breath.

“We’re dating,” I repeated, but not with any confidence.

Lacey scowled. “We’re friends-with-benefits, Bash. With an actual deadline when this is over.”

Sid winced. He’d known me forever. He could probably see the devastation all over my face.

Kaylie scowled. “Friends-with-benefits? Why didn’t you tell me, Lacey? We tell each other everything. You told me all about Theo.”

Kaylie was talking to Lacey, and it gave me a chance to try to force air into my lungs. I rubbed at my chest with the heel of my palm as my stomach churned with bile. I had no idea how Lacey was answering Kaylie. I was in shock. There was only one time in my life when I’d felt this devastated, and that was when I thought I might lose custody of Kody. My soul felt broken and battered.

Sid stepped around the island and put a hand on my shoulder to get my attention. The girls were still talking. He kept his voice low. “I’m going to get her out of here, brother. Call me later if you need to talk.”

I just nodded.

Sid finally got Kaylie to leave, insisting that the twins were going to wake up at any moment.

Lacey finished her coffee and then put the mug in the dishwasher. “I’m going to go, too. I think we could both use some time to think. I’ll call you later.”

In less than five minutes, she’d gathered up her stuff and was gone.
