I rummaged through the bottom of my suitcase. “I like the sound of that.” I found three bikini bottoms, but no tops——typical Liam.

I held them up. “You have got to be kidding. I’m not going out there topless.”

He grinned at me. “Personally, I think you’d look great.”

I scowled. “I hope they sell suits here.”

Liam opened his bag and pulled out the matching tops to my bottoms. “I must have put them in the wrong bag.”

“Right.”

A bottle of sunscreen, two towels, and a swim coverup over my bikini, and I was ready to relax after our three flights.

Liam picked a shaded table by the pool for us.

I took the chair next to him and held his hand. “Thank you. This is wonderful.”

The waitress came by, and I decided on a Caribbean Smackdown for a drink. I had no idea what it was, but it sounded like what I needed. Liam chickened out and picked a margarita. Burgers and a nacho plate rounded out our order.

“Did I tell you I love you today?” Liam asked.

“Only a dozen times, and I love you too.” It had probably been more, but I wasn’t counting.

The view, the weather, and the company combined to make this a perfect afternoon. I leaned back and closed my eyes, taking in a deep breath of the warm tropical air, listening to the surf in the background.

Holding my fiancé’s hand, I settled into the perfect vacation: sun, warmth, quiet, and my gentleman.

Liam

“Hey, douchebag,”Nick’s voice carried across the pool.

I turned to see Katie and a grown-up Nick Knowlton at the poolside swim-up bar. I hoisted my drink to them, not answering him verbally.

Amy turned to look. “Hi, Katie,” she called, waving at the pair. “Wanna join us for lunch?”

She turned to me. “You didn’t tell me we were meeting them here.”

“Surprise, remember?”

Katie and Nick hoisted their drinks overhead and waded through the water toward us.

“Good to finally see you again, douchebag,” Nick said as he approached.

I stood as Katie followed him.

Nick gave Amy a quick embrace, but didn’t offer me his hand.

Amy and I each got a hug from my sister before sitting back down.

The waitress brought our nacho plate, and I added another to the order.

Nick eyed me cautiously as he ordered food for them. “So, douchebag, what do you have to say for yourself?”

Katie shot Nick a stern glance he didn’t catch.

I took in a deep breath and sat forward. “I’m glad you two could make it. I wanted to apologize in person, Nick, for how I behaved in high school. I’m sorry I lied to the principal that day and cost your chance at college.”
